What is the Statute of Limitations? Actually there are many different kinds. Each provides a certain time limit in which a particular case may be filed in court. It is not sufficient to make a claim within the time period a lawsuit must be filed. For example, there are different statutes of limitation for auto accidents involving injury and a shorter period where a death has occurred. Medical malpractice has a very detailed procedure that has to be followed before a lawsuit can be filed and a specific time in which the lawsuit must be filed. If you sue a governmental agency a different statute of limitations applies. Any claims filed in federal court or against the federal government are subject to a separate statute of limitations.

It is best not to delay consulting a Board Certified lawyer following an injury or death. All of our active partners at Kerrigan Estess Rankin McLeod & Thompson are Board Certified.
