Great list of alternatives.  I think I'll need to cobble together 2 (maybe 3?) of these services to get the functionality I'm used to.  (for instance, I like feedly for many things, but i think it's terrible for reading long form articles.  dotdotdot.me looks like it might be a solid option for that.)

I have gotten out of the habit for using any RSS reader for long-form articles. Would something like Instapaper/Pocket/Quote.fm/etc. be viable for that sort of thing, secondary to your RSS reading?

To maintain it's relevance, simply redesign Google+ every few months to make people come back, visit, and complain about the redesign on other social networks.

Man I wish that guy would either shave off that "goatee" or grow in the rest of his beard. There's simply no need to get creative with facial hair, guys. Write that down.

Underrated benefit of listening to music on vinyl - skipping songs is a hassle. So that one song that you always skip, you tend to just let it play. And maybe it grows on you.

For me that was "Cold War" by Styx on the Kilroy was here album. It came between "Mr. Roboto" and "Don't let it end." I don't skip it on my iPhone now.

Amanda Palmer, an American musician, delivered an electric talk about patronage in the internet age at a recent TED conference. The audience response was such that TED immediately (and nearly without precedent) edited and posted the video to its free website. It racked up over 1m views within a few days http://econ.st/15QeWTo

I'd really like everyone that I know and care about to read this blog post and heed it's advice.

How inconvenient is it? And does it affect anything that authorizes using your Google Account, or just specific email-related services?

I need to spend some time comparing the quality of their libraries, but I'm juust about ready to say Rdio is better than Spotify. I really dig their recent redesign and they have better mobile apps.

The biggest deal-breaker for me is that Spotify still hasn't released their iPad app. I do most of my in-car and at-work music listening via my iPad these days and Rdio has me covered. As soon as my current billing cycle with Spotify is over, i'm subscribing to Rdio probably.

Pro-tip: at your local supermarket / big box store, find the farthest shopping cart corral and park across from it (not next to it) every time.

Reasons:
* you'll park farther from the store. yes it's only a few extra steps, but every little bit helps, right?
* you'll waste less time and gas cruising around the parking lot looking for parking
* you'll never forget where you parked
* you'll likely be parked a good distance from most other cars, meaning fewer parking lot dings and scratches from other doors
* when you're finished, returning your cart to a corral is always easy

If you count your steps around the store, parking about, what, 20 more steps away seems silly to fret over.

When [my wife] came back to her desk, half an hour later, she couldn't log into Gmail at all. By that time, I was up and looking at e‑ma

I needed to wash a comforter that was too large for my at-home washer. It was 10pm and I needed it done that night. SpinCycle was open and reasonably close. That's about the only positive thing I can say about this place - it was open. 80% of the machines in this place are "out of order". I am not exaggerating. Seriously, it's worth the trip just to stop in and marvel at all the "out of order" signs. The machines that do work require very specific and careful operation. I lost $1.25 to a machine for feeding quarters too quickly (my mistake, didn't read the signs warning you to feed quarters very slowly, one at a time, listening to make sure they hit the coin reservoir). I couldn't get the door to my washer to close. Double checked the posted signs - ah, you have to literally slam the door to get it to close and lock. The machines themselves are old and probably more dirty than the clothes you put in them. The attendant on duty is a disinterested observer at best. The other customers seemed to know all the tips and tricks of getting this place to work for them, so I guess if you live nearby and need a late-night laundromat, this place will get you by. You would do better to save up your laundry money and wear dirty clothes for as long as it takes to save up for a washer and dryer of your own.
