I use a VPN when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks; for my needs, that's adequate. But this article outlines just how complex the VPN market is and the many factors and applications that need to be considered before choosing one that meets your needs.

Our writer set out to make a list of reliable VPNs; turns out the task is complicated.

The National Air and Space Museum is breeding tribbles. This will not end well.

I've been a Trekkie since Dad introduced me to The Next Generation in 1987. Almost 30 years later, I finally made a guest appearance on a Star Trek podcast!
Ken Gagne, gamer, youtuber, and polygamer, joins Scott to discuss VOY’s Tuvix (S2E24). Tuvok and Neelix: two great tastes that taste great together? Well.. at least Tuvix isn’t as annoying as Neelix. Topics discussed include the Apple II, inviting your parents onto your podcast (while you can), where you’d like to live in the Star Trek universe, and some Voyager episode. Next on Random Trek… something!

OK Go's music videos are consistently jaw-dropping… but this one takes the cake.

I really dug Star Trek Beyond, seeing it twice in its first week. My friend +Sabriel Mastin and I offer our review in this one-hour spoilercast!
Ken Gagne & Sabriel Mastin review the movie Star Trek Beyond (2016), from Krall as a villain to the references to Enterprise.

Here's the first teaser trailer for the new Star Trek series that'll debut on CBS Access in January 2017. It's too soon for actual footage; production in Toronto doesn't begin until this fall. But the text hints at some of the concepts. "New crews"—plural? Could this be an anthology series?

This compilation of scenes demonstrates Hollywood's best visual effects, from Star Wars (1977) to Gravity (2013).

"And why do the best hackers on the planet not work for the FBI? Because the FBI will not hire anyone with a 24-inch purple mohawk, 10-gauge ear piercings, a tattooed face, who demands to smoke weed while working and won’t work for less than a half-million dollars a year. But you bet your ass that the Chinese and Russians are hiring similar people with similar demands and have been for many years. It’s why we are decades behind in the cyberrace."

He's the creator of McAfee antivirus and a presidential candidate. He may be blustering, but I believe he has the credentials to back it up.

Introduction
I am a writer, editor, and social media strategist on the subjects of IT, electronic entertainment, and human interest. I primarily write for Computerworld about Apple, content management systems, and retrocomputing. Whenever possible, I explore in writing, podcasting, and event management my personal interests in the Apple II, multiple sclerosis, and genre films and literature. And apparently, I like lists.

Great service and prices — but once you are in their customer database, they will NEVER, EVER leave you alone. No matter how many times you call or email, leave messages or speak with humans, explaining that you have moved out of the area and are unable to be their customer any longer, they will regularly call you asking if your vehicle needs service. One representative even told me they don't have a mechanism for removing customers. I eventually had them update my profile with bogus information, just to leave me alone.

As a vegetarian, I didn't realize Café Gratitude goes one step further by offering fully vegan selections. I was delighted to be able to order anything off the menu, something I can rarely do anywhere else. The mawkish dish names ("I Am Transformed", "I Am Inspired") were not very descriptive — but it was more than made up for when the server placed my dish in front of me, looked me in the eye, and said, "You are Extraordinary." :-) The restaurant has a pleasant layout and atmosphere, and our server, Leslie, one of the café's original staff, was attentive and friendly.

Two friends and I visited this pub on a Saturday night. We had a GREAT time, with a pirate band that came to our table to make sure we got a taste of their offerings. Dancers, wenches, and more provided entertainment the likes of which we wouldn't find anywhere else. Add some generous serving sizes, and we went home happy!
