If you're in Europe you know what the Eurovision contest is...for everyone else, it's a once-a-year song contest with a Superbowl-like TV audience.  This year they used Google's Compute Engine infrastructure, and while some argue about the musical quality of the event, I think nobody's arguing that the infrastructure was lacking in quality :-)  50,000 requests per second,  99%ile latency of 35 milliseconds at the app layer.
Service providers Scalr and grandcentrix used Google cloud to build app for the second largest television event

We had a washing machine in our hotel room on a recent vacation.  In which slot should the detergent go?  If you guessed the slot labeled "I", you would be wrong.

"Students being able to get their code running on the Internet with almost no hassle was one of the most important aspects of my course. First, it gave the students an immediate sense of power. After the first lesson, they would have their own code running live on the Internet!"

This is the line for people to get into the #io12 keynote. I guess they are anxious to get in!

Edit: and the keynote doesn't start for another hour!
