On this day, 230 years ago, the U.S. Constitution was signed in Philadelphia.

Let’s take time to celebrate the freedoms it provides and give thanks to those who have fought to protect it!

RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY
Responsible Dog Ownership Day is observed annually on the third Saturday in September.

If there is or soon will be a canine companion in your life, Responsible Dog Ownership Day encourages you to make a promise, not just to your loyal hound, but to all of those who may be affected by him. Dogs bring many benefits into our lives and to ensure they remain healthy, happy and safe; we need to be on the lookout for their well-being and the well-being of those around them. Many do not take into consideration all the care involved when taking in a canine companion. Their size, energy, medical care, temperament, and many other needs are the dog owner’s responsibility.

HISTORY
The American Kennel Club promotes Responsible Dog Ownership Days across the country annually. Since at least September 17, 2003, on the 119th anniversary of the AKC, Responsible Dog Ownership Day has been encouraging dog owners to be the most respectful, caring, and responsible companion to their canine they can be.

RV Discounts & Savings

We know you’d rather be mapping out your next destination than worrying about how much you’re paying for RV insurance. Here are a few things you can do to save on your RV Insurance.

Pass an Accident Prevention Course
RV operators aged 55 years old or older who successfully complete an approved accident prevention course can get a discount that lasts for three years.
Deter Thieves With Anti-Theft Devices

Qualify for a discount when your RV is equipped with an audible alarm or a disabling device that renders the fuel, ignition or starting system inoperative. If your RV has either a LoJack® or Teletrac® system, we’ll waive your comprehensive deductible if your RV is stolen while the anti-theft service is activated.

Put It in Storage for the Winter
Reduce your coverage to just comprehensive during the months your RV is stored for the winter. When it’s time to head back out on the road, call your local independent agent to reinstate your liability and any other coverage on your policy.

Type of RV
The make, model, and safety features of your RV will have an effect on how much it costs to repair, maintain, and insure. When you’re shopping for a motor home, trailer, or camper, ask your local Safeco agent to compare the cost of insuring different RV models. If there’s a significant difference, it may have an influence on which RV you choose to purchase.

More Than One Set of Wheels
Qualify for a discount when you insure your RV and car on the same policy.

More Than One Policy
Get a multiple policy discount when you also insure your home, condo, motorcycle, or boat with the same insurer.

Choose a Higher Deductible
A higher deductible will lower your insurance rate by shifting part of a loss payment to you. For example, if you have a $500 deductible, you’ll need to pay the first $500 of a covered loss. A higher deductible generally lowers your premium, but increases the amount you must pay out-of-pocket if you file a claim.

Federal Court Strikes Down 2016 Overtime Rule

On Aug. 31, 2017, a federal judge in Texas struck down the Department of Labor’s (DOL) 2016 overtime rule, stating that the DOL had exceeded its authority by issuing a new salary level requirement for white collar exempt employees.

The DOL is unlikely to appeal this court decision because the ruling does not put into question the DOL’s general authority to set any type of salary limit.

However, the DOL has also signaled its intention to propose a new overtime rule. The DOL has published a request for information (RFI) to invite the public to comment on the issues the DOL should consider before proposing a new overtime rule.

ACTION STEPS
Employers are not required to comply with the 2016 overtime final rule. This ruling ensures that the rule will not take effect. Employers should monitor developments on a new overtime rule proposal.

Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies in the United States, was recently the victim of a massive cyber attack—an attack that may have compromised the personal information of 143 million people.

The breach itself occurred between mid-May and July 2017 when cyber criminals gained access to sensitive data by exploiting a weak point in website software. As a result of the attack, sensitive information like Social Security numbers, birthdays, addresses and driver's license numbers were compromised. In addition, Equifax said 209,000 credit card numbers were stolen, including information from international customers in Canada and the United Kingdom.
