I am the Executive Director of the Hegeler Carus Foundation, which manages the preservation and restoration of two historic homes in La Salle, IL. The Hegeler Carus Mansion, built in 1874 is a National Historic Landmark, is under restoration and is operated as a house museum. The Julius W. Hegeler 1 Home is on the National Register and is being restored to be a community center and venue.
I write a travel blog, The Backyard Tourist. I blog about quick day trips for people without a lot of time for a get away.
