Video: Jazz Great Stan Getz Talks About His Drug and Alcohol Abuse In a 1986 Interview Animated By PBS

Stan Getz - "It’s just like they say at Alcoholics Anonymous. I was either and/or going insane or I was going to die. I was one of those guys who was in constant denial. "

"Look, I work. I do my job. I support my family, boom. I do everything I was supposed to do. If I want a drink, fuck you, I’ll drink. It’s a disease and it took me that long. It took me 45 years from the time I was 15 until I was now and I just wouldn't believe it."

"I could drink. I’d get up there and play and I don’t remember. Most of my records I don’t remember making…"

Some moves in the Commodity markets these days that some people might find interesting. The first is Natural Gas.

Below is a Daily chart of Natural Gas futures (Henry Hub I believe). Obviously, because of the cold weather that has hammered much America this year, Natural Gas (NatGas) has soared in price.

Look at the left hand side of the chart. Notice the size of the price bars (red & green bars). Now look at the right hand side. You can see a huge expansion of price (volatility) of these past few months. Incredible moves. I think it was up +18% one week in January and then down about as much the next (which is nuts).

Another factor in NatGas price is the amount in storage, and with the extreme cold weather this year, it has brought about a decrease in NatGas in storage which I think is probably a bigger factor to the rise in price (since the markets can be "forward looking" at times).

As far as the U.S. exporting NatGas (LNG), this article explains it well:

- U.S. Liquefied Natural Gas Exports - "The United States is currently a net importer of natural gas, but the recent expansion in shale gas production is changing that. As the United States’ natural gas supply has grown, net imports have been on a downward trend. In 2012, for example, net imports decreased by 23 percent, reaching their lowest point since 1990. The United States is now expected to be a net exporter of natural gas by 2020."

Fantastic first person video footage here. Well worth the watch:

Sochi 2014: Graham Bell's Rosa Khutor downhill course guide - Watch the incredible footage as former Winter Olympic skier and BBC presenter Graham Bell skis the controversial Rosa Khutor Sochi 2014 downhill piste.

Five-time Olympic medallist Bode Miller has said the course "could kill you" and Bell describes the challenges as he tackles the run holding a hand-held camera.

Afterwards he says the 46-degree gradient course is "one of the toughest" Olympic downhill runs he has skied.

As a follow up to my previous post, here is a Monthly chart of Natural Gas from 2002 to present. The blue arrow points to where we are today. Not much in the way of price history, but should give you some perspective.

The Clash "Safe European Home" Live in Detroit 1980 - Here’s never-before-seen footage of the Clash performing “Safe European Home” at Detroit's Motor City Roller Rink in 1980, posted on YouTube this morning courtesy of PeaceJam's "One Billion Acts of Peace" Campaign.

Ivan Suvanjieff shot the clip on super 8 film (arguably the only gauge that matters). Suvanjieff used to be known as Mark J. Norton back when he was an associate editor at Creem magazine.
