“We look down on Earth and we see ourselves as humanity, not as citizens of any one country, but citizens of Planet Earth,” says former astronaut and Space Shuttle commander Bob Cabana who was the American aboard the International Space Station. As we mark the 20th anniversary of our orbiting laboratory, listen to Cabana recount his experience turning on the lights: https://go.nasa.gov/2qV4Rq9 #SpaceStation20th

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn't want to miss this.

Here is my invite link: https://initiativeq.com/invite/HQL8rBV6X

This link will stop working once I’m out of invites. Let me know after you registered, because I need to verify you on my end.

You rock Levi!

I am so proud! Levi wanted a PC so he could play all my old games and some Open Source games. So I gave him this spare PC I had. It's an old Pentium 4 system with 4GB of RAM and a Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS 512 MB video card, perfect for what games we will be installing on it.

We talked about it and he liked the idea of setting up his own OS. So with me there for support and the Gentoo handbook open on my laptop, Levi installed and configured his first OS, Gentoo Linux. He did the whole thing: partitioning/formatting the hdd, installing the stage 3 base, kernel, bootloader, everything. I just guided him, answered questions and gave him suggestions on how to configure his system but, he did the actual work. He is so proud of himself and excited to get XFCE installed as his desktop environment in the next couple days.

Geek in training!

A new piece of U.S. legislation threatens the data privacy of the entire world. The CLOUD Act is a terrible solution to how law enforcement agencies get their hands on data stored outside their borders.
