When my daughter and I went on our epic 6 day 3000 mile camping trip, it included a one day tour of Yellowstone.
And of course, we had to see Old Faithful.
The idea had come to me earlier in the trip, that 50 years from now, pictures of the sights might be less interesting than pictures of the people visiting them...

I just couldn't come up with a creative name for this one...so, I took the "movie cop-out" and just added a "II" to the end of another Badlands road picture.
I have this internal debate, where I can't decide whether I should name my pictures. Sometimes I like the way that a good title can add to an image, and other times it seems better to leave the image alone. Let it stand on its own merits, without any literary help.
I just don't know...
After the rain passed and the rainbow moved on, we started a drive through the Badlands Loop Road. The after effects of the storm made for some outstanding scenery.
I love road shots. They remind me of the adventure of travel. They keep me longing to see what is around the next corner.

They wanted her to sit on a small couch as people came in so that I could get a picture of her with each person, but she never sat down. She warmly greeted every person that came through the door, non-stop, for several hours.
I took this shot before the guests started arriving. Most of the immediate family had already arrived and they wanted to get some shots of her with the family. But, before I let anyone sit, I insisted she sit so I could get a shot of her by herself.
She doesn't like to keep people waiting, so I didn't get much time. But, I'm glad I insisted on a solo portrait. And I'm definitely happy with the result.
Based on all my previous visits, I would never have believed the Badlands could look like this...so lush, so green. It's amazing what a little rain can do to a landscape.
And so I asked my daughter to walk slowly through the grass.
And then this became one of my favorite shots
After the rainbow over the Badlands faded, the setting sun and the perfect clouds made for some truly epic scenery. The shadows cast by the jagged edges of the Badlands added a fantastic edginess, contrasting with the soft skies created by the clouds.
