Good to know

Sometimes it’s like pulling teeth to get my kids to share ANYTHING! Over time I’ve found that I’m more successful in getting my kids to open up and have a real conversation if I use these following 3 strategies:

Thanks Keith, saved for later. Very good advise that I think will apply equally to grandparents as it does for parents (for us old farts)

Is it possible to use a pwm/servo shield such as this one adafru.it/1411 to run a standard motor? Or am I stuck to having to visit an electronic supply shop to get a motor shield?

A single MOSFET is the simplest method for driving a DC motor in one direction but if you want to be able to reverse it then you will need to either build an H-bridge or buy an ic such as l298n or l293D. I have used a few l293D to drive motors in some small robots with great success. 4 MOSFETs in an H-bridge is the best for larger motors but the drive circuitry can get a bit complicated depending on the MOSFETs used.

A quick search found this page that has images showing how an H-bridge reverses the motor and the ever dreaded shoot through. I didn't read the text but the drawings looked good.

To my fellow #pilots out there: A relative contacted me for help with making travel arrangements to help her friend's son, whose dying of bone cancer, be able to see the Northern lights if he stabilizes enough to travel as part of his bucket list. I thought I'd share with the community if anyone is willing to donate their time and aircraft if Alex is able to travel.
We are so close to completing the bucket list!  Our hopes are to get Alex stable enough to travel to complete bucket list item see the northern lights.  He finishes radiation on Tuesday, so there may be an opportunity to make this happen.  However, it would be last minute travel arrangements to do so, which will be very expensive.  So we have extended the Giveforward campaign until November 30th to try to raise enough funds to accomplish seeing t...

First, if you--or know anyone--who works for DHS, you might want to start with keeping a closer eye on your credit reports.

Now, for my rant: This is just plain asinine. Who picks these contractors, and why in this planet does DHS need to outsource background checking of their prospective agents? One would think this would be easy picking for a well-trained FBI investigator.

So if Visa and MasterCard set a October 2015 merchants to have EMV readers, why would I be issued a new card that doesn't have the EMV chip?

I agree you don't have to be a coder, but for crying out loud this guy doesn't even have a background in IT. A part of me wishes that a major breach happens within the US government. I know the current administration would care less--he's on his last term--but I'll get a good laugh out of it.
Some in the cybersecurity community aren't happy about a new interview from White House cybersecurity coordinator Michael Daniel.

This place has terrible customer service. We were looking for some grill, but the guys working that section didn't seem interested in helping us. One of them asks one of the girls to help us. We asked her what a barrel grill is, she tells us she didn't know and was going to ask; she never came back. After 5 minutes of waiting, we left.

Some friends mentioned this place a few weeks back, so we tried this place out for my birthday as a treat. Good burger and sides for the price. There are some interesting choices on the menu such as egg buns or fried pickles. For this trip we opted for the O.C, L.A and the kids meal. The cashier was nice enough to give us 3 cups for the kid's meal drink so my wife and I didn't have to buy extra soda, our plan was to just have waters. I'd be interested to try the other items in their menu on a future visit.
