My 2012 +MIT Sloan Executive Education  #CleanEnergy class heard a pitch from +Altaeros Energies Inc and now they're in the +The New York Times. That was the best class ever, +Bill Aulet!
With new technology, the industry has been able to produce more power at lower cost by capturing the faster winds that blow at higher elevations.

Here's an update on underwater CAES.

Underwater Compressed Air Energy Storage (UW-CAES) — a step beyond underground energy storage in caverns — may soon offer conventional utilities a means of long-duration load shifting for their large-scale electrical grids, and niche microgrid operators a means of reducing their fossil-f

+Leo VTS  The carbon turns into carbon dioxide and contributes to  global warming. So you have to make the methanol from a renewable source (e.g. wood.)

The same thing happens with a Bloom Energy's fuel cells. They are fueled by natural gas, which usually comes from a well, and results in greenhous gas production.
