I can relate to everything in this, except the purse bit: I hate purses, and carry as little in them as possible. :)

I'm not sure what to think of this but I wasn't tempted to buy it.

First Ireland, then the US. I'm in tears. Happy tears.

NEW BLOG POST: Halawa Valley Molokai. The exchange of breath is referred to as honi and it’s a Polynesian greeting in where two people press their foreheads together and inhale at the same time. The greeting is considered an honor as it represents the exchange of ‘ha’–the breath of life, and spiritual power between two people.

Me and Dori, Fundraising in the City Centre Saturday Morning

One of the local non-profit organizations near and dear to me is Cork's Dog Action Welfare Group (or DAWG), a canine rescue that brings in abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs and rehomes them.

James and I adopted Dori (below), a corgi/collie mix, from DAWG almost 5 years ago. She was found abandoned at the city pound, heavily pregnant, and with only a couple days left before she'd be euthanized. After she'd whelped her four pups (which were all subsequently adopted), she came home with us.

We then fostered for DAWG for a couple years before adopting our second furbaby, Murray, through them a couple years ago (he's the wee fire-lover pictured so often during the winter season).

We don't have the time or space in the house to foster dogs anymore, but a couple times a year I volunteer a few hours for the twice-annual fundraising effort in town. I answer questions, our dogs revel in the all the attention that's lavished upon them, and we help raise much-needed cash to operate the rescue.

If you're thinking of adding a dog to your family, please consider adopting a rescued canine. They will give you so much more than they'll ever ask for in return. And if you've made yourself a dog's second chance, thank you.

Introduction
Former VFX technician, prior Marine, feminist, geek. Current MA student at UCC. Sometimes travel blogger @tourabsurd. Academic tweets @questionsandtea. LinkedIn: http://t.co/7LkoSo9cm7

I'm a dual US/UK citizen who grew up entirely American (although I do like tea). Lived in Italy for 3 years, now living in Ireland. I wrote a travel / photo / humor blog for about 4 years before heading back to school to pursue postgraduate work. I've recently started playing Ingress, which is getting me out into the fresh air and keeping me active. Great, geekly fun!
