Hey all .. what a cool page .. I am a huge supporter of Kickstarter and have gotten some pretty amazing items over the years that I helped fund so I am excited to see what you all share here.

And in the spirit of sharing I have a couple of friends that just launched a campaign this morning.

Ever wonder if there are still any real live medicine men around… any Native American healers practicing ancient traditions and ceremonies with real results? Russell FourEagles is a Native American who who grew up straddling two very different worlds. Yet one thing has risen in clarity above all else… he was born to heal. Todd and Tim have been fascinated by his story and want to bring it to the world through a documentary called Born to Heal. Check out their campaign here bit.ly/borntoheal
Born to Heal, a documentary exploring the life of Native American healer, Russell FourEagles, and a handful of the lives he has touched

Community Strategist: Helping businesses develop community and marketing strategies by creating a community playbook
Introduction

I work with brands to set the vision and build the strategy for their community. In my career, I have consistently exemplified the four key elements necessary for successfully building communities: community advocacy, brand evangelism, savvy communication skills and editorial planning, and excelling as the liaison between internal decision makers and community members.

Let me clarify; if you’re not sure what I mean by community, I suggest reading the “What is a Community Manager, and Why You Need One” below. While the title is relatively new, I realized the traits that make a Community Manager successful are inherent to my personality, and aligned with much of the work I’d already been doing. With over a decade of experience as an educator, trainer, speaker, video host and blogger, I’d found the niche for my particular set of skills and knowledge.

Fast forward to today - after 5 years of successfully setting strategy and managing communities, I’ve found that the role of a Community Manager is maturing into two separate directions: strategy and execution. I believe companies benefit most from a community strategy; fortunately this blends well with my particular skill set and passion, which is rooted in the high-level direction. Although execution is necessary, much of it can fall flat of achieving a company’s goals without a strategy set to their implementation plan.

In response to this need, I developed a Community Playbook. Now, I specialize in setting community strategies, working exclusively with clients to build a tailored community playbook  that builds and sustains the momentum of their content, marketing, and social strategies.

If I’m not interacting with a community, I can most likely be found rock climbing, juicing, in a Bikram yoga studio, listening to electronic dance music, and generally pursuing the spirit of adventure.

If you’re interested in learning more, why don’t we connect and see whether a Community Playbook is the right fit for you.

  • Seriously Social Workshop
    Trainer, 2015 - present
“Seriously Social” is an interactive two-day workshop provided in a small group setting. As the trainer for Seriously Social, I help businesses in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry create a solid social media strategy and action plan for their organization. Over the course of two days, I facilitate the collaborative and interactive structure of the class to guide you through creating goals for your social strategy, defining target audiences, and creating buyer personas. I help you determine the voice for your brand, and understand social media listening, and together, we set up a listening dashboard. We examine the buyer’s journey through the traveler’s lens, and develop a content strategy that aligns with the information your customers are seeking; this way, we ensure that we’re creating content for the right people at the right time. We’ll cover tips and tools on how to optimize content for each platform. Once a solid foundation is laid, we cover how, when and which social platforms to use—examining them through the lens of our buyer, so that we are active where our clients are. I cover the best practices of these platforms, leaving you feeling comfortable and confident on each one that’s relevant to your business. We will discuss how to be proactive in your online interactions with guests, how to respond to online reviews, and create a social media response plan. Finally, we put it all together: we create a daily action checklist and our editorial calendar, and we discover how to measure and track results. I present all of the tools, knowledge, and training in an accessible manner, so that you leave the course with the ability to execute your new social media strategy and a clear picture of how to implement your daily plan. If Seriously Social sounds like a class your business would benefit from, contact Katie.
  • Katie Felten LLC
    Community Strategist, 2014 - present
I specialize in setting community plans that inform marketing, communication, and social strategies for companies. To best direct these strategies, I developed the Community Playbook as a deliverable that uncovers and documents vital information about a company’s target customers, and outlines content and platform strategies to grow and empower their community. The Community Playbook is a comprehensive guide to community strategy, design, and execution. It structures the community strategy across all channels, including online and off. During the process of creating a Community Playbook, we will analyze where the community is now and set a direction for the future, focusing on increasing engagement and driving growth. A Community Playbook is a living document, one that will be updated and grow with company. It is flexible in nature, providing guidelines rather than rules. It is a reference that my clients can come back to time and again to ensure that their communication with their community is on track. If a playbook sounds like a class your business would benefit from, contact Katie.
