For months, every morning when my daughter was in preschool, I watched her construct an elaborate castle out of blocks, colorful plastic discs, bits of rope, ribbons and feathers, only to have the same little boy gleefully destroy it within seconds of its completion. When: Wed,. April 10, 2013 12:20 to 1 PM Where: Paul Robeson Library Lobby And? Refreshments will be served Chris Desai will discuss her research regarding representations of Christopher Columbus in children’s picture books. Desai investigates the changing image in these works of both Columbus and the people of the “New World.” She also explores how these images relate to changing power relationships and understandings of the European “Age of Discovery.”
