An Excuse to Share Pics of My Girls

We have now been back at this school thing for three weeks so I decided it was high time for some back-to-school photos! It’s always fun to look back every year and see how much they’ve grown.

Why You Should Let Your Child Read Comic Books

Did you know that comic books are some of the best books you can have your child read to increase vocabulary? It’s true. Of all the books in the world, comic books actually introduce more rare words per 1,000 than children’s books, preschool books and even adult books! Although I’m as shocked as anyone to say this, the fact remains that the only type of reading material with more diversity in vocabulary are scientific articles and newspapers. And let’s face it–those don’t have quite the same appeal to kids as books, if you know what mean.

So yes moms, comic books can actually be very beneficial to our children.

Read on...

Enduring Life's Thorns

Paul was a great apostle, but he had a thorn. Theologians wonder what it was—poor eyesight, height, or simply enemies who wouldn’t leave him alone—but Paul leaves the answer as a mystery. What it was isn’t as important as how he responded to it. His actions are noteworthy when dealing with our own thorns.

Life is filled with thorns. How you respond to them, reflects how you respond to God. Paul's actions provide great insight into dealing with life's thorns.

100+ Activities the Kids Can Do in the Car Besides Watch a Movie

If you are getting ready for your summer trip, chances are you are asking yourself that age-old question–“how are we going to keep the kids occupied during our looooong trip?” In the age of technology, the easy answer often seems to be the portable DVD player or gaming device. However, sometimes we forget there are a whole lot of other things kids can do in the car and enjoy just as much, if not more, without that screen-zone hangover.

Today, with your help, we are going to see if we can make the longest list of things kids can do in the car WITHOUT the use of technology. Ready? I’m going to get the list started with the first 100. Feel free to add your ideas in the comments below. Let’s see how many options we can come up with so that we never again have to ask that question, “how are we going to keep the kids occupied during our looooong trip?”

Teach Your Children to Seek God First with This Book

Contentment. How’s that going for you? Have you learned to be content with what you have? Have you learned to be content with where God has placed you? Or, maybe I should ask, have you taught your children what it means to be content or given them examples to follow? Every day they see something in a store window, on TV, or at their friends’ houses that they want, or think they need.

When we feel discontent, we often forget to seek God first. The same goes with children. Thus, I love books that help teach our children biblical truths like the Kingdom of Thrim.

$1.99 E-Book Sale for Homeschool Moms

Summer. I love summer. And what is one of my favorite summer activities? Reading! For me! Not for the kids. Not for a class or a Bible study…for me! Even more, I like reading when I can do it on my own time (not the library 2-week limit), when I can do it for cheap (say…only a couple of dollars), and when it’s a really good book! That’s why I’m really excited about this summer reading sale for homeschool moms which includes 4 books that were written or co-written by me! They are all only $1.99 each!

#homeschool   #ebooksale   #mom
From May 30 through June 2, get these top 20 mom books and resources ALL FOR $1.99 each! It's the first of it's kind summer reading sale!

Introduction
Kathy Gossen seeks to encourage others to live for Jesus in the everyday no matter what the occasion.  She is frequently found living out this motto as she organizes her closets for the twentieth time, prepares homeschool lesson plans for two wiggly worms, cooks for a picky eater (aka her husband), or learns how to become a better blogger.  In the end she just prays that her life song sings of love for her Lord, and she hopes to encourage others along the way in her writings on Cornerstone Confessions.

Kathy has also served as the Executive Director and non-profit founder of Central Oklahoma Homeschool Choirs, a 5-choir choral program providing a quality choral education to over 170 area homeschool students ages 5-18.  As ED of COHC, she also coordinated the Oklahoma Homeschool Choral Fest, a solo and ensemble and large group choral event for all Oklahoma homeschool students ages 8-18 led under the direction of a nationally known clinician.  While she no longer serves the choirs as ED so she can spend more time with her family, she continues to support the choirs as their web designer.

In her spare time, Kathy serves as a consultant for Usborne Books and More.  She loves getting families excited about reading through the sharing of amazing children's books.  Feel free to contact her to schedule  an Usborne Facebook party and earn some amazing FREE books for your family too!
