7 WAYS TO IMMERSE YOUR CHILD IN ASL

While learning any language can help in many areas of academic development, ASL has one thing going for it that no other language does–physical movement.  In ASL one uses his/her body instead of his/her voice when speaking, making it the ideal first or second language for children who are still learning how to use their tongues.  Need help in how to start?  Here are 7 ways you can immerse yourself or your child in the learning and practice of ASL.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR HOMESCHOOL WITH THE END IN MIND

I’m a planner.  I love to plan.  When my babies were little I was already planning their kindergarten year of homeschool…seriously.  LOL.  I guess it was the teacher in me or something.

That said, there is something about planning with the end in mind.  No, you don’t need to plan EVERYTHING out.  No, you don’t even have to “get it right.”  However, thinking through where you want your child to be when he/she graduates from high school can have a significant effect on how you plan your homeschool year-by-year.

#homeschool   #ihsnet   #planning
Take a look at the bigger picture as you begin to plan your homeschool year. What do you REALLY want your child to know and/or be able to do when it's all over.

9 Exciting Books You Need to Read to Your Kids About Early America

In the past month, the girls and I have read over 75 children’s books covering everything from the solar system to Moonbear’s Shadow.  We have loved quite a variety of books, but many of our favorites thus far have been our early American history read alouds.  “Keep reading mom.  Keep reading!”  I have heard those words so many times with these books that I just had to share.

If you are looking for some books about early American history to read aloud to your early elementary student, or some books that your older elementary student might want to read on his/her own, I cannot recommend these enough.  Even I learn new things in every one!

This is my heart-string right here--music DOES matter.  Here's just a few reasons why.

#musiceducation   #homeschool   #ihsnet
Research suggests that teaching music matters! Music appreciation can motivate students to take lessons but provides all the benefits of learning music.

Introduction
Kathy Gossen seeks to encourage others to live for Jesus in the everyday no matter what the occasion.  She is frequently found living out this motto as she organizes her closets for the twentieth time, prepares homeschool lesson plans for two wiggly worms, cooks for a picky eater (aka her husband), or learns how to become a better blogger.  In the end she just prays that her life song sings of love for her Lord, and she hopes to encourage others along the way in her writings on Cornerstone Confessions.

Kathy has also served as the Executive Director and non-profit founder of Central Oklahoma Homeschool Choirs, a 5-choir choral program providing a quality choral education to over 170 area homeschool students ages 5-18.  As ED of COHC, she also the coordinated the Oklahoma Homeschool Choral Fest, a solo and ensemble and large group choral event for all Oklahoma homeschool students ages 8-18 led under the direction of a nationally known clinician.
