I made this collage the art trading card size, 2.5″ x 3.5″, but it would look great at any size. http://artprojectsforkids.org/portfolio/house-collage/
I made my collage the art trading card size, 2.5″ x 3.5″, but it would look great at any size. 1. Find an old phone book or equivalent, and paint the pages different colors with watercolor. Let dry. 2. Cut up the paper to make a simple house collage. 3. Glue all down with a glue stick.

The United States Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive buildings in the nation. I’ve made a tutorial that includes graph paper to help students align all of its beautiful features. http://artprojectsforkids.org/portfolio/us-capitol-2/

I’m working on a few more characters for my upcoming Cartoon Drawing book, so I thought I’d share the latest – a little French girl. I hope it might inspire some young future fashion designers. http://artprojectsforkids.org/draw-a-little-french-girl/

My daughter will love this one. Thanks for sharing your wonderful lessons! We've been making the Elements of Art journals and did one of your Christmas murals over the holidays.

This abstract landscape was drawn with Elmer’s glue on black cardstock paper, and later filled in with Crayola Color Sticks. I promise this is not a paid endorsement, I just wanted to share how well these three supplies work together. http://artprojectsforkids.org/glue-and-color-sticks/

Tugboats are very basic boats, so they make a good drawing project for even very young artists. http://artprojectsforkids.org/draw-a-tugboat/

‘Tis the season for holiday decorations, so here’s my solution for some inexpensive snowflakes that have a lot more impact than paper ones, if you ask me. http://artprojectsforkids.org/wood-stick-snowflake/

My students have drawn lots of traditional American style homes, so now I’d like them to try something different. Specifically, Amsterdam style buildings. PDF tutorial available. http://artprojectsforkids.org/portfolio/amsterdam-buildings/
My students have drawn lots of traditional American style homes, so now I'd like them to try something different. Specifically, Amsterdam style buildings. They have very different profiles and details, not to mention water canal surroundings. Here's a tutorial that includes many of these details ...

Did you ever realize that sometimes you just make projects more difficult than they need to be? I’ve always liked the idea of working with masks, but couldn’t get excited over the super-simple paper plate variety. On the other hand, I didn’t have time to do spend several classes on fancy mache versions either. Enter a teacher’s last minute request, and my stash of Goldfish boxes from Costco and you have a fairly quick but fun result. http://artprojectsforkids.org/recycled-cardboard-masks/

Kelli from Orangevale Adventist School shared this Van Gogh Sunflower Mural that her students recently finished. The artwork is amazing enough, but the framing and the quote on the wall are just the perfect finishing touch, if you ask me. Thanks again for sending this Kelli, I’m sure it will inspire lots of readers! http://artprojectsforkids.org/sunflower-mural-from-orangevale-ca/

I often see students use oil pastels like crayons, as in lightly coloring and shading with them. Unfortunately, that doesn’t let pastels show their “true colors” (sorry!) which come about with pressure and density. Here’s a very simple winter-theme drawing that has lots of pattern possibilities. http://artprojectsforkids.org/patterned-glove/

Office stickers make these snowmen a breeze to put together, so students can concentrate on creating a short story. http://artprojectsforkids.org/tell-a-story-snowman-card/

This scratch art technique is called “sgraffito’, and it works great for turkey feather lines and more. http://artprojectsforkids.org/scratch-art-turkey-2/
