"Give parents back their rights to let their kids walk to school!"

My piece in today's New York Post.

I’m so old that when I was growing up, my stay-at-home mom stayed at home. She didn’t take me to school. She just waved goodbye and off I walked, starting at age 5. When I got to the one suburban s...

+Kathryn Patterson Well they are well past being children now with children of their own but I so remember the paranoid stage and I would not do that. I just kept a watchful eye out. It does happen but then how much can one protect their family?  We walked for miles to school in rural Georgia. But school we must go, thru the rain,, storms and snow.  Mom insisted we get the education and we were fortunate for having a mom like her.

What's Wrong With Hollywood???
This weekend, my husband and daughter went to see "Antman", and came home raving about the movie.  Part of what they liked was the originality of it - no one has made an Antman movie before.  This isn't a reboot of a franchise, a prequel, a sequel, or a eve...

I love going to Cafe 33! Shane (the owner), Craig (the cook), Heidi (front counter), and Brit (front counter) all know my name and welcome me each visit. The food is made to order, so it's always hot and fresh. I also love their coffee and specialty drinks. They even offer free wifi! I recommend Cafe 33 for local business meetings, friendly get-togethers, and any other occasion where you want to meet someone and chat.

Fresh, amazing food for reasonable prices - that would be my tagline for Tandoor. I love the butter chicken and palak paneer!! And normally I do not like spinach. The naan always come out freshly made, steaming hot and completely delicious. Sometimes the restaurant is empty, but at other times you cannot find a place to sit down. And most of the patrons are either Indian or Pakistani - attesting to the authenticity of the food.

I have looked for a good sushi restaurant around here for years. But it took a chance appointment to introduce me to Ege Sushi and Japanese Cuisine. I love this place! They provide a simple menu - one side in English and the other side in Japanese. They only have one server since it is a small dining room, but the woman is very friendly and helpful. She works hard when there is a crowd, so no one gets ignored no matter how busy the room gets. As for the food, I cannot say enough good things about their soup, salad, and of course their sushi. Everything as authentic as you can get in Georgia, and better then anywhere else I've found. I recommend Ege Sushi & Japanese Cuisine to anyone who loves sushi.

China Dynasty is a long-time family favorite restaurant. My kids love the sesame chicken, and my husband and I have tried a variety of dishes from the rest of the menu. But other than the fantastic food, what we really like are the owners. A wonderful Chinese couple own and run the restaurant; their kids work as servers, cashiers, and host or hostess as well. We feel like we're eating at a friend's house sometimes, which adds an intangible happiness to the experience.
