Been a member of Hope Presbyterian Church for 5 years now and regularly serve on the Service Commission, and participate in a variety of community outreach programs on an annual basis. They have been working on expanding their community outreach programs without duplication of efforts provided by others. A prime example of the avoidance of duplication of efforts is the partnership with the Hill Country Ministries program. While they collect food drives on the 1st Sunday of each month in the yellow bags, they refer folks seeking financial, food, and/or clothing assistance to Hill Country Ministries. As the liaison of Hope with Manos De Cristo, I know that Hope members are generous in their time and talents with helping with Back-To-School efforts (through collection of pencils and books), tamale sales, ESL & Citizenship classes, among many other efforts. World of Hope is another effort that we annually work with promoting the Fair Trade issues and increase the efforts that help with the community-at-large on a global basis. Hope Presbyterian answered the disasters of the fires in Bastrop by working through the partnership of the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Program, as well as locally contributes time and talent annually to the local Habitat for Humanity homes, Interfaith Hospitality Network and the Homeless community. Many community organizations are also involved in meeting on a regular basis (some for decades) like AA, Boy Scout Troop, CPR Classes, ESL and Citizenship Classes, Neighborhood Associations, and so much more. There are so many examples of where Hope is, not only a leader in the community, but strives to recognize mentorship relationships with neighboring schools, neighborhood relationships, and beyond - even a Stephen Ministry program that reaches out to aid in community members' ability to heal from a death of a love one, divorce, loss of a job, etc. For additional information about Hope Presbyterian Church, see my postings made on Yelp, and more.
