A horrifying and not too uncommon story. I'm glad your sister got out. I have known others in similar situations. Unfortunately, the abused person has to make the decision to leave, and manipulation by the abuser can make that decision harder than it seems from the outside.

Dinner tonight was a variant on Salade Niçoise. I skipped the lettuce for various reasons, but included marinated olives, red onion, green beans, grape tomatoes, red potatoes, hard cooked eggs, and some yellowfin tuna, which we grilled. Everything was tossed in a light vinaigrette, and served in a somewhat composed presentation. I have a really hard time not getting too much food for these sorts of salads, but I think I almost "right sized" it this time. I should have gotten a bit less potato.

Dinner was a Stromboli from Italian Delight by Avelluto, the local Italian restaurant. (The two brothers came here from New York back in the 1970s to bring NY style Italian food to the rest of us.)

Dinner tonight was a cheeseburger made of equal parts ground bison and lamb, topped with some aged cheddar from Somerset, and a bit of the last of my sister's green tomato relish. It was served on a brioche bun from Whole Paycheck, lightly brushed with mayonnaise. I served it with a side of quartered Brussels sprouts, which I sautéed in the fat from the burger and deglazed with a bit of Courvoisier VSOP. I bought extra, so that's probably what I'll be fixing, with slight variations for Wednesday and Thursday dinners.

Dinner tonight was "refrigerator clean-out stir fry". (Thanks for the term, +Shinae Choi Robinson.) We had some carrots that were turning rubbery, and a red bell pepper that hadn't been used. So I got a bit of chicken, fried it in grape seed oil (my standard high temp cooking oil) added the carrots and pepper, some fresh green beans, onion, garlic, ginger, and made a very light sauce with hoisin, sriracha, and dark sesame oil. (I am out of mirin; not sure how that happened.)
The rice got a light fry and a toss with some tamari.

Karma moved before I took this photo. He had been on his back with his legs in the air. (Yes, I know, it's a trap.)

G'night, all. It's summer, and I'm not a fan of summer.
