With Thanksgiving here, now is the time when many of us pause to reflect on all that we have and give thanks. But research shows there are major benefits to practicing gratitude -- which Robert Emmons, a professor in UC Davis' psychology department a...

Loved this piece. "The great merit of Fisher’s food writing was—and still is—how she pinned down the emotions connected with hunger and appetite..."
The celebrated American food writer was as sweet—and saucy—as the caponata she served.

I'm going to host a handful of cooking classes in my kitchen this summer. Each is 3 1/2 hours, hands-on/demo and will be videotaped so that the same lessons can be taught to others online. Space is limited to six people per class, and I'm only doing six classes total, so if you're interested, snap up your spot. Details on my site.

Just one of the ways in which the shutdown is affecting the food and safety of U.S. citizens. We forget, not everything about the government is evil... !

Been a little obsessed this morning trying out this new site FoodScores which rates foods based on their actual nutritional content (not what the manufacturer puts on the label).
EWG's Food Scores rates more than 80,000 foods in a simple, searchable online format to empower people to shop smarter and eat healthier. Each item in the database is scored based on three factors: nutrition, ingredient concerns and degree of processing. Check it out and see how your favorite foods score.

Great list! Only things I'd add are almonds and pecans. They both are so versatile in baking and breading fish or chicken. I'd eliminate the canola oil unless it was organic and add rice bran oil for frying.
