Painted by a Woman?
Yes!
The painter is Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, one of the few women artists in Paris in the last 18th century.
Marie Antoinette was her patron, but Vigee Le Brun wisely fled France at the start of the revolution.
The painter is the subject of an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum.
