Does look like it's got possibilities as neat web-hosted tool.

Microsoft tried this space with Publish, and Apple has made some forays here, too. Hasn't caught on. I'm curious how this will work out, since the fundamental dynamic hasn't changed: Design is about more than "looks good". Where do Canva's users learn about story, theme, color, and the other basics of design?

And, as a production artist, for the print-media stuff, does this really produce prepress-ready graphics? That's one of the big ways MSPublisher fell on its face. It was easy for the user to build something that simply wouldn't work on press, and we (in the prepress shop I worked at) ended up having to practically rebuild their work - a huge expense for them.

The idea certainly has merit but, as always, the Devil is in the details.

Do you have a blog? Thinking of starting one?
Your blog is most likely going to fail. Want to know why most people fail when it comes to building a successful blog? It’s actually quite simple. For whatever reason (time, money, job, family, etc…) they can’t put in the love that is required to make it successful. Readership is not built overnight nor is …

It doesn't get much colder and inhumane than this. Herding horses with helicopters down a path of death -it doesn't say much for our government, does it?

Yeah, that was unfortunate. But, and I say this with all respect for Apple's excellent products, it wouldn't have been able to really do that if the products revealed that day hadn't themselves been... well... less than dramatic, shall we say?

Apple could really stand another "moonshot" product launch, a la the iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Alas, the iPhone 6 and Watch were not it.

Maybe next year.

Move over Klout. Move over Fico. Here comes the Collaborative Economy Customer Score.
Move over Klout. Move over Fico. The new score is the Collaborative Economy Customer Score. Today, a ground-breaking deal was struck between Uber and Amex (a few days ago, they received millions of dollars from Fidelity). You can use your Amex loyalty points to pay for rides.

Nellis Cab Company put my life in danger and deserves ZERO stars. I was speaking at a conference in Las Vegas and needed a ride to the airport. I got one of the cabs in line at the hotel...something I've done many times, although this will be my last. If you've ever taken a cab from one of the major hotels on the strip to the airport, it's typically a quick 15-20 minute ride. About halfway into the ride, traveling at about 40 mph, the driver decided to look for his earphones. He took his eyes off the road AND both hands off the wheel to untangle them and mess with inserting them into his phone. Then, still going 40 mph and no hands on the steering wheel, he took off his sunglasses, which were attached around his neck with a neoprene eyewear retainer (I think they were Croakies). He started cleaning his sunglasses and then messing around with them a bit trying to put them back around his neck and then up on top of his head! STILL no hands on the wheel. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and then I started to get scared. I asked politely if he could PLEASE drive with both hands on the wheel. He said nothing but did put his hands on the wheel. We were almost to the airport when he took his hands off the wheel again. Before I could say something, we were in an area where the road curves so he had to put his hands on the wheel again. We drove up to the airport curb, he got out to get my bag in the trunk (never saying anything during this entire time). I used the swipe gadget to pay but wanted a receipt. I slid over and opened the door on the passenger's side and he got back into the car. I was about 3/4s of the way out of the car when he rolled the car forward about a foot or so. Then he rolled it back about a foot and a half, almost running over my foot! I was able to get completely out of the vehicle and stand up with the door open. I bent down to ask him what the hell he was doing and at that point, with the door still open, he punched it! He hit the gas and took off with the door still open almost running over my foot again! When you start feeling like your life is in danger, your mind focuses on fight or flight. I was unable to find any info on the driver once I got my wits about me. I never got the cab number even though I did look as the vehicle was driving away. I called the company and got a very nasty woman who refused to put me in touch with a manager. She told me I had to go to their website to "file a complaint." There's no place to do that and all it says is to call the same number where the rude lady was breathing fire. No thanks! It's no wonder why people are choosing Uber and Lyft. It looks like both those companies will be able to service customers at the Las Vegas airport very soon (end of Oct 2015?). I'll never use Nellis Cab Company ever again. If you're in Vegas look for this cab company's name on the cab. If you see it then turn around and call Uber or Lyft or walk to your destination. It's not worth your life, eh?

Holy moly, I love this place. The food is very fresh, clean and tasty. I usually get the salad greens with the fish option. As with all great food, sometimes it gets busy here. However, they do know how to move a line forward quickly and keep everyone happy. You'll love it.

I love True Food. Everything on their menu is simply delicious. Their drinks are awesome (alcohol or not). I'm particularly fond of the Cucumber Collins. The Spaghetti Squash casserole is to die for - I could eat it every day! I love the credo of this business: local, seasonal, organic, TRUE food. My only issue is I wish it were more reasonable. The portions are skimpy. But the food is very inventive and seasoned well. The outside patio is nice, especially on one of our many pleasant Newport Beach days. The covered patio is also enjoyable. The vibe is a little "chain like" with servers not as interested as they should be. Overall, the food is worth it.

I was visiting a friend in Portland and the first place she took me was this wonderful book shop. It's a really great space filled with all things inspirational and spiritual located right in the heart of the most amazing area of Portland, 23rd Ave. Its very reminiscent of the Bodhi Tree Bookstore in LA - now closed :-( The staff are friendly, too. My favorite sign in the place was back in a less-traveled nook that said "Shoplifting is Poverty Consciousness" Well done. I will be back!

I had a wonderful experience with Alex and First Class Autoworks. Our car had a leak in the head gasket and also a tire pressure sensor that kept coming on, no matter what we did (it's a 2008 Nissan Altima). The price for this major job was reasonable - especially compared to the other quotes we got from "less-skilled, less-reputable" facilities. It's been a few weeks and the car runs great. They were the ONLY shop that was able to fix the tire pressure sensor, and that's been amazing. Now, if the tires do have a change in pressure, it will read correctly. Alex and his Dad (and their dog, Bella) couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. It was pleasurable to work with them If you're looking for a trustworthy shop to repair your car, this is it!

I was here up from LA for an executive retreat. The grounds and surrounding areas are simply breathtaking. The hotel staff is friendly. They were very accommodating with my food requirements (gluten-free, no sugar). Debbie in catering was awesome! I had to change rooms the first and second nights I was there (I stayed for 3). The first room was on the ground level with a door out to the wooded area. This is a fantastic room if you have your doggie with you (they allow that - yay!) but for a single gal from LA, more doors mean less security :-) They gave me another room the second night and I was awakened at 4:00 am with a loud banging on pipes in the walls. The staff tried to figure out what it was but never did. They told me later that the hotel has been known for strange sounds. The banging stopped around 6:00. BTW, the WiFi was spotty at best - seemed like a server overload. The third night was quiet. The room had a nice view of the pine trees. If you're looking for a great place to take your family for vacation or to have an extended business meeting, this is the place. The rates are reasonable and there are many outdoor things to do (hiking, ziplining, whitewater rafting) Great food in the restaurant, too.

There is simply no better place in LA or Orange Co's to go for vintage, mid-century or 70s era furniture. It can be hit and miss but my sister and I totally scored the day we went. We got a couch, 2 chairs, 2 end tables and 2 lamps. It's always fun to barter with the proprietors , too. Get there early, especially in Summer months, because it gets hot fast. The merchants are all very accommodating and brought the furniture to our car. Lots of fun on a Sunday morning!
