Pennsylvania people, make sure to vote! There are three open state supreme court seats being filled, making this an election of huge importance!

Had my first tattoo done today. I am pretty ecstatically happy right now. :) I do not expect this to be the last.

Hauntology is a peculiarly British artistic movement, largely in the medium of popular music, that draws on a mythology constructed from public information films, village horror movies and children's TV, all from Britain of the 60s, 70s and 80s. Musically there are influences ranging from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and Tangerine Dream, to folk songs and jingles, employing a mixture of digital and analogue production methods. The aesthetic extends to record sleeves, web sites and various kinds of literature published by the main purveyor of hauntological recordings, Ghost Box.

Anyway, I like the stuff, so maybe you will too. Some links to get you started:

sigh

I just read the text of Kentucky Senate Bill 76, which just passed. This bill forbids public schools from implementing a policy which allows transgender kids to use the appropriate bathroom for their gender. Fortunately, they at least took out the $2,500 bounty for "catching" someone in the "wrong" bathroom.

The laughably bad part is that it defines "biological sex" for the purposes of the law as "the physical condition of being male or female, which is determined by a person's chromosomes, and is identified at birth by a person's anatomy".

The problem with this? Even among dyadic people, these two things don't always match up (under naive expectations of how DNA effects sexual development). And if you count intersex people (which you should), it goes further out the window. (See http://www.nature.com/news/sex-redefined-1.16943 for a rather good explanation of the complexities.)

So even if this wasn't absolutely awful for trans kids, it's still an enormous mess that's at odds with how the world actually works.

Hopefully it will die in the House.

Apparently queer women have some magical pro-gaming powers that give us an undefinable yet totally unfair advantage. Wow.

This whole post is so ridiculous that I can't even be angry, just... wow.
