+Grey Geek All of the available linux laptops are Dell's low-end offerings. I need something with processing power. My work usage involves running various web and database servers, multiple virtual machines, as well as processor intensive test suites. 
At least you are not locked into downloading (and purchasing) applications from ONE SOURCE, and if Ubuntu does not work out, there are plenty of other distributions to choose from.
