Ghent beautiful by day, stunning by night. This city is a photographers paradise with charming buildings and still water canals. And there are plenty of very cool places to eat and enjoy one of Ghent's 300 different beers.

Ghent's castle is mystical by night. It also hosts a fair share of the citys events and festivals. Ghent is a truly great place to visit that is still unspoilt by tourism. #wherewouldyouratherbe

Well welcome to Ghent and this is our home until the new year. And what a romantic, picturesque city. A hidden gem away from the usual touristy spots. Stay tuned for some stunning photos by Kate of this truly medieval city.

Ghent is a city where historic and modern blend seamlessly. An architectural treasure tastefully woven with modern and innovative museums, galleries and public spaces. Ghent is forward thinking with town planning, environmental and arts initiatives. It has one of the most exciting culinary scenes in Europe and a calendar of festivals and events uniquely Ghent.

Lonely Planet claims Ghent is “the best kept secret in Europe”. Visit Ghent and you will find a modern town of historic beauty ready to show you a good time. Not only is Ghent a true gem of Belgium, it is one one of Belgium’s most exciting cities.

While one of the best things to do in Ghent is to indulge in the cities finest cuisine and culture, neither of which are in short supply so is simply enjoying this beautiful city by night. Like a lady all dressed up in her finery, ready for a night on the town, Ghent really comes into her own when the sun goes down and there’s a reason for that.
Forget Brussels and Bruges, those in the know are sneaking off to Ghent. Why? Because Ghent is shaping up as one of the best cities in Belgium.

We seem to be finding a few little gems lateley and Pigna in Italy is one and it is a standout. Forget those fancy tourist riddled hot spots and head to somewhere like Pigna for an authenitic Italian experience. We did and loved it.

Inspiration and ideas for lovers of travel, on and off the tourist trail through slow travel and living local.
Introduction

In early 2014 Kate and I made the decision to sell up everything we owned and go travelling.  We had always been avid travellers and the opportunity arose for us to let go of material things and take the punt on travelling full time.  So after some research and a lot of soul searching we hit the road. Starting our journey in Morocco we have been going strong ever since.

We started Vagrants Of The World Travel at the same time and decided we would publish a magazine style travel blog, one not full of advertisements or other clutter. We focus on helping people save money and to make their dream trip become a reality.

Our main mode of travel is house sitting. We determine where we will travel based on the house sits we have booked. House sitting has taken us to 2 continents where we have lived in haciendas, on hobby farms, even leaky old boats and cared for everything from Dogs to Donkeys, as well as some very angry geese.

We have lived as temporary locals in some places for as little as one month and others for up to six months.

In between and during house sits we take advantage of our location to explore regions and countries closest to us. Our wanderings take us to places we never imagined going.

We can regale you with tales of scootering everywhere from Asia to the Caribbean, where to get the tastiest illegal cheese in Portugal, how to find amazing frescoes on the walls of goat shelters in Greece or even about being escorted at gun point off a coffee plantation in Nicaragua.

Vagrants Of The World Travel gives insight into the local perspective through a slow travel experience. We also search out iconic journeys and the best boutique holidays. You can follow our tried and tested day trips, use our first hand experience of boutique hotels, cruises or private and small group tours or get inspired to take a different kind of holiday.

We like to share the highlights and perhaps give you a reason to also visit some of the in between destinations we never thought we would end up in.

And mostly, inspire those who love to travel and provide some escape for those who perhaps can’t.
