Time to stand up for your health!
As part of my research on health and fitness, I kept seeing all the articles about the impact of sitting all day. The headline that really got my attention was "Sitting is the new smoking." When I'...

We are not programmed to savor the good moments -- Rick Hanson teaches us how to get better at this . . .
I was watching a video in which Rick Hansen, neuropsychologist and author of the books Buddha's Brain and One Good Thing, explained to me that it wasn't my fault that I seemed to focus much more on...

Drawing #4 for Sketchbook Skool -- In the future, I won't create text on the fly while writing it in ink on a drawing I've spent so much time on.

Thank you, Randall. I am slowly letting go my my inner perfectionist (except where it concerns my writing -- next time I will play with the writing on another sheet of paper before I commit it to ink on the drawing . . .)

My second drawing for Sketchbook Skool.

Perhaps I was overly ambitious today. I didn't have paper thick enough for a watercolor wash background so I sort of dry brushed the sky in at the end -- not terribly effective.

What a challenge to draw such a big and complex scene with a pen. My perspective, relationships, relative sizes are all a bit off, but I just kept reminding myself that my favorite Van Gogh and Cezanne rooms were imaginatively rather than "correctly" drawn.

My sadness is that I did such a poor job of drawing Catzenbear and Poohbear, my loving teachers and co-authors of my book "Choosing To Be: Lessons in Living from A Feline Zen Master." Maine Coon cats are very furry and almost impossible to draw. Perhaps I will work with some close-up pictures to see what I can do with their faces.

I like the basket and the funky jars at their odd angles, and am rather fond of the lamp and table. All in all, a worth-while effort which turned my Sunday morning into a meditation on lovingkindness . . .

Have you tried meditation and failed?  My story may help you . . .
Sometimes it is difficult to learn how to meditate from an enlightened guru, or at least it was for me when I was a beginner. I would read their words over and over, trying to understand what they were talking about -- but it was as though they were writing in a foreign language, one I had yet to learn. I wrote about my own quest to become a meditator, and these writings evolved into the book "Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen M...

Drawing #3 for Sketchbook Skool  -- I became quite attached to this rather odd pot.  It was difficult to capture on paper, but my heart took it in with no trouble at all . . .

I understand. I have a plant pot that I bought used and I painted it. Afterwards, I noticed it looks like an Native American pottery. If it was, it's value is less, now. But, in my mind it's gold even if it's just an old non-Native American pot. :-)

Easing my way into Sketchbook Skool - 1st day of an exceptional online class. My first entry for the week is a sketch of iris that have just bloomed, along with some rosemary I outlined and then ground the little flowers into the page to capture the scent. It feels really good to be back in an art class . . .

The price of the Kindle version of Choosing to Be has just been reduced to $3.49 -- not sure how long this will last, so if you haven't had a chance to learn from the Feline Zen Master, now is the time!

Also, did you know you can give someone a Kindle book as a gift?
