Pretty interesting data on the ICSE and ISC 2013 board exam results!
In the last several weeks, in a time wedged awkwardly between the end of my college finals and my summer internship, I've been exposed to some information that left me quite flabbergasted. It started about a month ago. It was a very important day in the lives of two of my juniors and close friend...

When a woman reaches for help on the streets, this is what happens to her in Bangalore:

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/woman-groped-by-mob-slapped-by-constable-after-accident/article4173670.ece

What a shame!

`She quoted the policeman as having told her, “You don’t know Kannada. You don’t belong to this place.”'. Such intolerance to outsiders is utterly outrageous!

Here is a petition voicing opinion about the incident:

This is just mind blowing!

Quite a good talk. The few tools he's developed are awesome, but the talk has a much grander scope.

The abysmal state of Indian education: even in the "top" states of HP and TN! We have to wake-up. If not now, it is never!

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. Winston Churchill, November 1942. The PISA 2009+ results are the end of the beginning. F...

Tears for a fellow Guindian:

In 1998/99, when we were in Guindy, another great student's life was lost to suicide. The incident left a deep impression in me.

Today's stresses of a professional college and its diverse environment demand a high reach of professional counselling and support facilities on campus. This is a serious wake-up call for an active outreach program.
He was a child of poverty who was adopted by bright future. But just when he was a step away from realising his dream of becoming an engineer and a poet, the 23-year-old chose to go into the arms of d...

Definitely there is pressure for TM students. Some of these gaps could easily be addressed through some kind of college specific free training focussed on cultural/self-awareness/self-confidence aspects. Its sad that there are so many training centers to prepare for 12th std exam, but none on how to get prepared for college.

Not sure if it is the entrance exams. Even in the past when entrance exams were around we did have a pretty good mix of students from diverse academic background, but at the end of 4 years all were able to successfully move into a comfortable band. Not sure if the social/peer has increased much more than what it was 10 years ago.

Nothing is worth going to the length of taking ones own life.

We have shopped for cars at many dealerships - struck deals at some and walked out of others. However, in none of them have we received as bad a treatment as in Clay Subaru! A dealership may beat a competitor's price or not. Whatever they choose to do, they cannot treat their customers with utter disrespect. That is exactly what happened at Clay Subaru! It was our misfortune to be stuck with an extremely rude salesperson named Chris. While we had better offers for a 2013 outback from other dealerships, the color of the vehicle here appealed to us and hence we went in for a test drive. However, right from the moment Chris heard our offer (which was based upon other competing offers), his rudeness knew no bounds. He walked out right in the middle of our conversation for the reason that we hadn't brought the competing offers as e-mail printouts! He would repeatedly interrupt our conversation and behave as if he is paying us to buy the car when it was the other way around! It was a hellish experience that day! There are several good Subaru dealerships in the Mass/RI area that treat their customers well and are also competitive in pricing - so, please avoid Clay Subaru at all costs!
