It's an unexpected side effect of globalization: problems that once would have stayed local—say, a bank lending out too much money—now have consequences worldwide. But still, countries operate independently, as if alone on the planet. Policy advisor Simon Anholt has dreamed up an unusual scale to get governments thinking outwardly: The Good Country Index. In a riveting and funny talk, he answers the question, "Which country does the most good?" T...

"Far too many people are profoundly illiterate in power -- what it is, how it operates, why some people have it."
Far too many Americans are illiterate in power — what it is, how it operates and why some people have it. As a result, those few who do understand power wield disproportionate influence over everyone else. “We need to make civics sexy again,” says civics educator Eric Liu. “As sexy as it was during the American Revolution or the Civil Rights Movement.”

Nur wenn wir gemeinsam handeln, wenn wir uns als die eine Menschheit begreifen, so wie wir sie deutlich aus dem All sehen, können wir die Zukunft gestalten!

For only if we are together, if we think ourselves as one single humanity, as we can see it clearly from space, we will be able to build a better future!

10 Companies Against Food Labeling

If you let these companies have their way -  by taking away your rights, - then GMO food labeling initiatives in Oregon and Utah will fail because they've pulled out all the $$$ stops to spread their propaganda.

Doesn't it make people wonder why they've spent a record amount of money to flash propaganda over your eyes constantly?

The debate surrounding labeling foods that contain genetically modified organisms is heating up again as the midterm election approaches. If passed, Prop 92 in Oregon and Prop 105 in Colorado would require that food companies label products sold in those states that contain GMOs.

Corporations spent a combined $64 million in 2012—when California’s Prop 37 failed to pass—and 2013 to combat GMO labeling efforts. With less than two weeks until the election, agribusiness giant Dupont Pioneer donated $2.5 million to the NO on 92 Coalition campaign in Oregon—the largest campaign contribution in the state’s history.

Currently, more than 60 countries around the world require GMO labeling or ban GMOs altogether; agribusiness giant Monsanto supports labeling abroad, *but not in the United States (because the U.S. is an oligarchy, not a democracy).

Here are the 10 food companies that just might have enough money to keep GMO labels off products in the country—at least until the next election cycle, unless you stop them by voting to label GMO foods.

Which apps and tools actually keep your messages safe?In the face of widespread Internet surveillance, we need a secure and practical means of talking to each other from our phones and computers. Many companies offer “secure messaging” products—but are these systems actually secure? We decided to find out, in the first phase of a new EFF Campaign for Secure & Usable Crypto. This scorecard represents only the first phase of the campaign. In later p...
