A problem I often see: designers hate to be bound to a grid system (and keep ignoring the need to define them), but we need reusable measurers for maintainability and faster development.
Giving designers a little more room on some defined modules could be a good compromise for both sides.
When discussing a pattern-based design workflow, one knee-jerk reaction I hear from visual designers is that a design system will stifle creativity, leaving everything looking homogeneous and bland. I think there is some validity to this concern, and this sentiment can't simply be chalked up to ...

Some good thoughts on when and why BEM is not always possible to use strictly (e.g. when developing a cms).
On the other hand self chaining selectors feel a lot like a hack - but a pretty neat one, when you are desperately looking for a solution fixing legacy code. :)

RSCSS seems like a more "natural" BEM to me. It borrows some main principles of BEM and keeps cascading rules (child selector) at the same time. I like that approach.

I would always favor the hassle of writing some extra css classes over the issues (deeply) nested css brings to the table.

Sometimes it can't be avoided, but I would never ever again base my css on nested selectors. :)
I have so much less problems with my css, it's crazy modular and almost never has any problems, no matter where you place it in the site.

Conclusion: it takes some time to guide a junior dev. But the more you are willing to give, the better the junior gets and the less frustrating it is for both sides.

Do not fear doing animations in JavaScript rather than pure CSS performance wise.

[...] in most real-world projects, the performance difference between GSAP and CSS animations probably won't be the deciding factor anymore. I think that's great news.
There are some interesting (and surprising) performance implications of using CSS animations that aren't widely known. Check out this video
