The roll out of friendlier Google+ URLs continues and they offered me the very simple KarlDawson. Result.

I'm curious what they're going to offer me, since my name was offered to my business page. I wish they'd let me suggest something right now.

Some useful pointers and great photos to understand the construction process. Interesting that the pond (or base of the spiral) is placed pointing north (in the northern hemisphere). This causes a bit of a rethink around my existing pond.

Having been home composting for the past two years, I attended a Master Composter course a few weekends ago run by the local council and Garden Organic to boost my knowledge on the subject and to encourage and share that back with my community, family and friends.

Last Thursday at the School Farm and Country Fair here in Ipswich we were non-stop for 5 hours explaining and then making compost with lots of enthusiastic primary school children. Even more composting volunteering yesterday, this time at the Mid & West Suffolk Show.

It was Molly's book that got me started in the web industry in 98/99 and if you'd have said then I'd meet her a few times for dinner at conferences, and be connected here on Facebook and LinkedIn I'd have laughed at you. It can't be said enough just how important Molly has been to the development of the Web and the professionals who make their living from it. If you're able, especially as a web geek, to help her in this (organised by friends actually) then this would be truly awesome of you.
If Tim Berners-Lee is the father of the Web, than Molly Holzschlag is its fairy godmother. Who is Molly Holzschlag? Molly E. Holzschlag has changed the world in many ways. She is the author of over 30 books on web design, CSS, accessibility, web standards, and more. Moll...

Short blog post on my diploma website.
Whilst checking on the bees at the community garden a week ago, we took the opportunity to forage some sweet chestnuts to go with the roast dinner that evening. Rather fiddly to peel, they were delicious nonetheless.

We bought a bag full of sweet chestnuts before christmas last year and had a good germination rate when we planted them. They were probably imported from Italy though, so if you've foraged some locally plant them and they should do well.

Design is like structured thinking and the steps in creating something or solving a problem generally follow the same process.

I've redesigned and relaunched my permaculture website to support my diploma work. Check it out...
I've had this website for a year or so now but since deciding to embark on the Diploma I wanted to completely blitz the whole thing and use it to document my projects. It's also an opportunity to map my web design process to the permaculture design principles and of course nail my first project ...

Rather belated announcing the launch of the redesigned ActivLives website. This is the charity I volunteer for down at the community garden, so it was nice to help out in this way too :)

Story
Tagline
Front-end developer and permaculturist.
Introduction
I've been designing and building websites and intranets for the pharmaceutical industry and local government since 2000 before going solo in 2012. Now working at kwiboo as a front-end developer I continue to stay abreast of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design and web accessibility standards.

I'm also interested in permaculture and record my progress at http://creativedescent.com. I completed my Permaculture Design Course in June 2012 under the expert tutelage of Patrick Whitefield and will very shortly begin the Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design. I'm now working towards a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design.

Fun fact:
I'm quite possibly the only front-end developer trained in hostage release and close protection. An odd combination, for sure. Thankfully in 10+ years I've not had to put this into practice in client meetings. One day, Steven Seagal might make a movie about a web guy in the wrong place at the wrong time... I suspect it will go straight to Blu-ray if made.
