FYI come join the conversation - one of our most popular chat topics returns with guest hosts +Jimmy Young and +Laurel Iverson Hitchcock!
(Reposted from: 3/12/15 #MacroSW Twitter Chat: Inequality for All - MSW@USC) The wealth gap between America’s upper-income and middle-income families has reached a record high. According to a recen...

FYI! Normally I don't post about our Twitter chats here unless the topic is specifically related to technology, but we have been having fun recruiting folks to lead chat topics related to macro social work practice. If you are interested in hosting a #MacroSW  Twitter chat, or serving as a macro social work guest expert for a future chat, please email me at karen@karenzgoda.org.

I can't imagine that there would be a connection between technology and macro social work... :-). Thanks for the post.

Were you aware that there are now at least three places you could get frozen custard in town? At least I've sampled the three I'm aware of (and if I'm missing any kindly drop me a clue). I haven't been to Abbott's Frozen Cust...

This is amazing news! Also I want to learn how to put together tweet maps like in this article. Anyone have any experience with putting these together?

Money quote: "I have come to the conclusion that Facebook is a lifestyle magazine featuring my friends, who are doing it better than me."
Constantly checking Facebook to see what your friends are doing could lead to some serious depression. A recent study conducted by researchers at Nanyang Technological University, Bradley University and the University of Missouri Columbia found that h...

A constant topic here in Boston lately. 😀 Money quote: "When officials in Austin, Texas, commissioned researchers to engage the public in social media conversations about proposed public transportation plans, they couldn’t keep up with the 49,400 social media messages received over the two-month trial period." How would you manage and make sense of 49,400 tweets?
Some cities ignore the abuse, but others have found success engaging it head on.

Just read the article.  1). As a Philly resident I was proud of SEPTA's approach to Twitter responses. Seems like one of the few good governmental ideas coming out of this city. 2) Transportation systems could reduce the number of tweets they need to respond to by requiring geolocation for complaints (i.e. we have to know you are on our transportation system in order to respond to your tweet). 3) Install AI software to filter the most important words (e.g. "theft" "missed stop" and "amazing" and "grateful "etc). Float those to the top for review / response.
