I just loved this article. If you care about the environment or California, not to mention the impact of water waste on our future, take a few moniutes to read this. So well written. Poignant and funny.
I spent three weeks trying to kayak (and walk) down the “most endangered” river in America, California’s San Joaquin; I quickly learned why no one does that

During the first week of class, my first year Spanish students learn how to introduce themselves, say and ask ages, say and ask how someone is, and say and ask where someone is from. I tied all of this together  (plus a couple of other vocab structures) in a  CI song to the tune of If You're Happy and You Know It. My students have to memorize the first two stanzas and perform it in groups next week as an oral assessment. They love the song and are now working on harmonies, rapping it, and other creative ways to sing it. Today, as I walked into the room, they burst into song for me. It was AWESOME! I'd be happy to share the song if anyone is interested.   #langcamp   #CI

Looking for a suggestion for an easy novel for first semester Spanish I students. Considered El Nuevo Houdini, but I think I'd like to start with something even more simple than that, then move in to it. Suggestions anyone?

I use Berto y sus buenas ideas with mixed results. It's super easy and has a lot vocab that you find in a traditional Spanish 1 textbook. My high school students don't love it, seems better geared for middle school maybe. I use Piratas too, but at the start of Spanish 2. I'm working por/para, DOPs, and IOPs with Piratas this year. If you pick either feel free to email to share materials!

I teach a high school credit Spanish I course to 8th graders and have two native speakers in it, who clearly could be doing upper level work, but my school stops at 8th grade, so there is no Spanish II class. I've been giving them alternative work, but they really feel they are just on their own and when I tried to give them a novel to read in Spanish, the boys plainly were upset. My other students are novice low, very basic beginners. I could really use some suggestion on how to handle this. The novice low kids need almost all of my attention, but it's not fair for these other two guys. Help! #langcamp
