We work in the dark―we do what we can—we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art. ― Henry James

TGIF: Burning Up. http://wp.me/pMl1-1ml #abstractart #art #gouache #watercolor #FingerPaintingFriday
Bit of a different image for "FingerPaintingFriday": watercolor and gouache, done with fingers and nails... but it's two different scanned finger paintings, combined in Photoshop, with one of them color-reversed. I thought the effect was pretty darn cool and worth sharing.

Just a colorful abstract I made while playing with discarded layers from years-old artwork and random doodles. Much like keeping writing journal of scenes and dialogue, I like to play with various art tools and see what happens.

Skills
I'm a professional artist and graphic designer. I work with both traditional and digital media, and often combine the two into mixed media artwork and design. My favorite traditional mediums are watercolor, acrylic, pastel, ink, and graphite. Digitally, I work in Corel Painter, Sketchbook Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I design for both screen and print. My layout work incorporates original illustrations, stock images, and creative type. Additionally, I'm skilled in photo retouching, photo restoration, and photo-painting. I accept commissioned projects and artwork. For more about me, please visit my blog at karengadient.com.

Introduction
"I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning."
J. B. Priestley

Where do I fit into your circles?
Here's a little more about me

 - I'm an artist. I work in digital and traditional media and am fond of lyrical abstraction. I come from a family of artists. We're all a little weird, but it's how we make a living.
 - I'm also a writer. I write science fiction, either the existential sort or the pulpy sort, or some combination of the two. I adore reading nearly every type of speculative fiction. The more fantastical and cerebral the better.
 - I live in the desert. It's damn hot here, but I love it.
 - I'm married to my inspiration and he's got the most wicked, wonderful smile.
 - I love cats. For many years, I worked as a professional groomer who specialized in grooming cats.
 - I'm a longtime Mac user and I drink enough coffee to be called an addict.

I might not be able to drink you under the table if it's wine we're having, but I'd win if it were coffee.
