The darkest day: 6 February 1958

February 6th will forever be circled on the calendars of everyone connected with Manchester United.

On that day in 1958, the darkest day in United's history, 23 people - including eight players and three members of the club's staff - suffered fatal injuries in the Munich air crash.

Flying back from a European Cup tie against Red Star Belgrade, the team plane stopped in Germany to refuel. The first two attempts to take off from Munich airport were aborted; following a third attempt, the plane crashed.

Twenty-one of the people on board died instantly. Aeroplane captain Kenneth Rayment died a few weeks later from the injuries he sustained while Duncan Edwards - one of the eight victims from the team - passed away 15 days after the crash. The tragedy is an indelible part of United's history, as is Sir Matt Busby overcoming his injuries to build another great team which won the European Cup 10 years later.

Roger Byrne (28), Eddie Colman (21), Mark Jones (24), David Pegg (22), Tommy Taylor (26), Geoff Bent (25), Billy Whelan (22) and Duncan Edwards (21) all died, along with club secretary Walter Crickmer, trainer Tom Curry and coach Bert Whalley.

We will never forget.

Juan Mata is a Red!

We're delighted Juan Mata has signed for Manchester United and we hope you are too.

Watch video of his first interview, read features and browse images of Old Trafford's new star in our dedicated Juan Mata section on the official website.

Put aside an hour or so, though... there's plenty to get stuck into!

National Mathematics Day
Srinivasa Ramanujan (22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920) was an Indian mathematician, who made extraordinary contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions.

Ramanujan independently compiled nearly 3900 results (mostly identities and equations). His work continues to inspire mathematicians even today!  Every year Ramanujan's birthday is celebrated as National Mathematics Day in India.

HELP !!
I have to go on a full day trip tomorrow. I really need my phone(nexus 4) to stay on for the whole trip, early morning to late night. My current battery life wouldn't be able to handle that (including photos, music).
I'm on PA 3.99 RC2. Guys, should I flash a custom kernel?? If yes which one ??
Or any other suggestions e.g. under-clocking etc. I don't know much about all of this. Please help !!

Three things off the top of my mind that will help...
1. Turn off location reporting
2. Greenify (root)
3. Firewall (eg.avast) to deny unnecessary apps any mobile data access while keeping data on

.....everything said and done...the most effective method would always be a external battery pack..as many above have suggested..
