Isn't it funny how one simple moment, in this case me and a container of hair dye and an hour alone in the bathroom (minor miracle for this mama), can turn into something that starts an amazing conversation on motherhood, invisibility, and bravery?

Reading through your comments and emails had me in tears this morning.  You all are AMAZING!

And for those of you who don't feel amazing right now, for those whom depression has an extra firm grip on, I hear you, too (even those of you who haven't written) because I've been there in my own way and I fear ever going down that path again.  I pray that someday you'll find your brave thing, too and it will be a turning point for you.

LOVED this post!!! And LOVE your hair! It looks great and I am so happy that it makes you feel great! I am having hair issues of my own so you've inspired me to be a little more daring too. :)

Spring Green: a not so brief history of me and my hair and a few thoughts about turning forty, too.
Me and my hair, October 2013, the last time I used permanent dye on my hair. I've never had "good hair."  Mine has always been unruly, wild, wavy, too long, too short, too processed, too chlorinated, too neglected, too hai...

Is it ironic that I am feeling just like this right now and I have two more years till my 40's? Or is it even more ironic that you are my 40th' friend in my friend's circle? :) Either way, there is no irony in the emotions that this brought to my heart. Thank you. THANK YOU. Now to get the haircut and color asap! :)

Why I cut and colored my hair (aka, what I did instead of getting a tattoo) ... the four minute version of the story.

Taking a peek at our homeschool command center and calendars.

Nothing too fancy, nothing too complicated, just some simple visual reminders to help us stay on target with our homeschool schedule and to help to teach the kids the calendar and the rhythm of the year, the month, and the week.

The lovely +Catherine Way shared this book review with Simple Kids readers a few years back and with Easter around the corner I thought some of you might enjoy hearing about Hunwick's Egg, an Australian Easter story by Mem Fox

Reading Two-Syllable Words with Easter Eggs
Using Easter eggs halves to read and write words with the c+le final syllable, a very common kind of syllable in two-syllable words.

Introduction
My name is Kara Fleck and I'm the editor of SimpleKids.net and the blogger behind Rockin' Granola and the homeschool blog The Dynamo Rhino.  I'm a wife and mother of four kids, ages one to eleven.

I’m a believer in childhood and the importance of keeping it as uncomplicated as possible.

In my pre-blogging life I have done everything from designing flyers for local bands (which sounds much cooler than the small-scale venture it actually was), working for my university’s English department as a student secretary, and for a few years I was the assistant manager of a small bookstore.

One of my favorite things about being a parent is getting to play, craft, and create with my children – any excuse to get messy and giggle!
