Show task relations in a board view

If you have many relations for a task, you can get a better overview by showing them in a board view instead of a list.

This is extra useful if you have a portfolio board with high-level tasks that you connect lower-level tasks to. You can drill down or up by clicking on a task.

You switch to the board view by clicking on "Show board view" for the Relations section.

This is a premium feature.

Task relations

You can now add relations between tasks. Either specify that a task depends on another or that they are simply related. You can even add relations to tasks on other boards.

To add a relation, click on "Add" in the upper right corner of the task details window and select "Relation".

To get a better overview of the progress of related tasks, click on "Show board view" in the relations section.

Relations can be used in many ways. For example, you can have a high-level portfolio board and connect tasks from multiple team boards to it.

This is a premium feature.

Points estimation
It is now possible to estimate your tasks in points instead of hours. If you use Scrum for example, you can use the field to represent Story Points. If you use the Pomodoro technique, you can use it to estimate how many Pomodoro points you need to complete a task. Or you can use it to represent something else.

Estimation points can be visualized in the following reports: Burndown, Throughput, Cumulative flow and Points estimate.

To enable points estimation, go to "Administration" > "All settings" > "Task settings" for your board and change the "Estimation unit" field.

New UI for task details

We have started to roll out a new UI for viewing and editing task details.

BACKGROUND: The previous UI for viewing and editing task details has changed very little the last five years. Getting a good overview of a task with due dates, subtasks and comments required that you checked four different tabs.

NEW DESIGN: So we set out to design a new UI where you get a good overview directly when opening a task. We also wanted it to be distraction-free. If you never use the description or time estimate fields for example, you will not see those fields when you open a task.

There are two things you need to learn with the new UI:
(1) To edit something like the name or color, click on it
(2) To add new things like subtasks or comments, click on "Add" in the top right corner

For power users we have good news! Almost all actions now have keyboards shortcuts. Here is a list of common shortcuts:

Press "a" - Open the Add menu. Use arrow keys and Enter to select an item to add
Press "n" - Edit name
Press "d" - Add/edit description
Press "c" - Edit color
Press "m" - Add member
Press "l" - Add label
Press "s" - Add subtask

For a full list, see "Help & feedback" -> "Keyboard shortcuts - task dialog"

Hope you will enjoy it!

Assign multiple members to tasks

Sometimes more than one person is working on a task. To visualize that, you can now assign multiple members to a task.

To assign members to a task, open the task and click on the "Assign members" button. To add a member, simply click on its name in the members dialog.

To make someone responsible, click on the more icon (three dots) to the right and select "Set as responsible".

To more quickly locate a member in the list, use the search input at the top to only show members matching your search.

You can also right-click on a task on the board and select "Assign members".

Improved task editing on mobile

We have reworked how editing of tasks are done on mobile. You can now make changes directly while viewing a task.

To edit a task, tap on "Edit" in the toolbar at the bottom. Then to edit a field, simply tap on it. Changes you make are saved immediately.

When you are done with all your changes, tap on the checkmark in the upper right corner.

We have also made it faster and easier to add new tasks. By default, you will only have to enter a name and optionally change color for the task. If you want to add more information, select "Edit task" under "Do next". To add more tasks, select "Add more tasks" instead.
