Remember google's excuse for omitting kitkat for the #galaxynexus   ?

Google then said something to this effect:

"Google also notes that the Galaxy Nexus uses a chip made by Texas Instruments (TI) — a company that's no longer actively developing smartphone chips. So trying to get everything in 4.4 working on that chipset would have been fairly burdensome"

Any guesses which soc google used on the prototype Project Ara phone?

Its a Texas Instruments TI 4460 chip.  Now #Google  says this is because its an extremely well documented chip, Texas Instruments is extremely helpful in supporting the product. Check the video of Project Ara Developer conference here:

Google Project Ara Developer Conference (April 15, 2014): Prototype Demo

Great. So now we know how much of a lie it was that #GalaxyNexus could not support KitKat. Of course it could but they didn't want to, because how else would the #Nexus4  sell?

Well those that have recently bought the #Googleglass   #glassexplorers   #glass  who knows you may be in for a shock when Google decides to do a 360 degree on the design like it did on the #galaxynexus  and #texasinstruments

Google experience launcher works on the #nexus7 . Basically if you are running Android 4.4 #kitkat you can install the #GEL apk separately and set it as your default launcher.

While on the home screen simply saying 'OK Google' will initiate a search just like in the #nexus5

If you are running Jelly bean or android 4.1+ you will first need to install Google Search version 3.1.8 and then install the Google experience launcher.

The #nexus5 launched in India on the Play Store today. Actually it was available a few days before at LG Shoppe outlets and to be truthful I headed out to buy one yesterday. But then I thought...wait...

where is #kitkat for my #galaxynexus ?

A little reading around showed me that the Galaxy Nexus would not receive KitKat Android 4.4 ...reason? Well...the processor is an OMAP made by Texas Instruments who are no longer into the Mobile Processor business..and driver support is no longer available.

On the contrary there are few Android 4.4 ROMs available on xda forums for the Galaxy Nexus. Does this mean that developers at xda were capable enough to get the drivers working for the galaxy nexus and Google engineers weren't?

I don't really think so...seems like there is more than meets the eye. Google really thinks most people with the Galaxy Nexus are a satisfied lot as the device is really well built and the only way for them to convince these lot to buy the nexus 5 would be to leave them longing for some #kitkat. Nice business move...wrong ethics!

This goes against the very reason people buy Nexus devices, that they will get updates if they meet hardware requirements. In this case Android 4.4 is capable on running on hardware with as little as 512 MB memory but they didn't bring it to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which has 1GB memory. Could this be an anti #samsung strategy where Google is now beginning to go with either LG or Asus for its new devices?

I just couldn't convince myself into buying another #nexus device. #Google is trying to remove fragmentation in the #android ecosystem yet not offering its updates to it's once flagship devices.

I wouldn't mind upgrading to the latest and greatest hardware but I certainly mind when a company begins to play games like these. This is why I moved away from Samsung devices.

They sell. They forget. They sell more....

#Google please get your act together.

Doesn't mean I won't be buying the Nexus 5, but at least not right away when costs a bomb...especially knowing that the next release of Android may not come to this device if Google says they don't support Snapdragon processors any more...who knows?

Google #helpouts launched only is a handful of countries. Certainly not launched in India.

I can certainly understand launching devices and even apps to certain countries because of regulatory restrictions. However when it comes to web based applications like #helpouts its certainly not acceptable.

You think people in India and other countries where you haven't launched this service don't have any skillset they can help out with? ...

Bring #helpouts to India. Limiting knowledge transfer means limiting learning..
