Love is sweeter at The Kahala! We are bringing back our limited-time hand-dipped truffles for Valentine’s Day. This year flavors take on a distinctly local taste, including kula lavender milk chocolate, roasted mac nut blonde chocolate, mango yuzu white chocolate and guava strawberry dark chocolate. The 16 pieces of truffles (four of each flavor) will come hand tied in the Signature Kahala box and sell for $38. Orders can be picked up from February 1 to 15. http://www.kahalaresort.com/honolulu_restaurants/offers/

We are honored to have now on permanent display the cloak and helmet of Hawaiian High Chief Ke‘eaumoku Pāpa‘iahiahi. Recreated by Hawaiian featherwork artist Rick San Nicolas, the cloak measures 60 inches in length and 108 inches in width at its base and contains approximately 200,000 individual Lady Amherst Pheasant feathers, in addition to nearly 50,000 feathers from the Chinese Golden Pheasant. Check out this time lapse video of the creation.

Last night my family and I (4 of us) sat in to hear David Swanson at The Veranda - we've had the pleasure of hearing and seeing David ever since his days in Waikiki in the 80's and for the 10 years he's been at the Kahala. As usual, he was superb - stylings, voice, arrangements and swinging through his repertoire with inimitable style. Alas, the rest of the evening was such a disappointment. As kamaiana, we have always loved going to the Kahala after because we knew that the food and aloha would be the best on the island. This time, the waitress was gracious and courteous but she had to inform us when I asked for a coffee refill that the Hotel now had to charge us. Hmmm, okay, so they need more money. Got it. Then we had our dessert - mine was advertised as having "whipped cream" but instead got some kind of artificial flavored goop, probably Cool Whip which had NO cream flavor, just an oily texture and no taste. You would think the Kahala would at least practice truth in advertising and hold itself to a higher standard, especially for a $14 single glass of dessert. Oh well, at least the valet parking was free, except we were told by our very wonderful server "Anais" that the "free valet service" required we spend at least $50 dollars - our bill was $42 and change. Fortunately, we were able to work out an arrangement to our satisfaction. These are all quite minor annoyances but, damn, I really thought the Kahala was better than that. We've never been disappointed before with the venue, the food, the pricing, but most importantly, the superb experience of being at one of the premier hotel locations on the island. Look, I don't mind that the Hotel must make a profit, but don't "nickel; and dime" the local customer. Raise your prices if you have to but adding silly charges such as a coffee refill, or a minimum $50 charge for free valet service, or not using REAL whipped cream just cheapens your image. While we love David and your gracious servers, we're not going back until you stop this practice of being "cheap." Oh, we were told that "new management" just instituted these change just a few months ago. I liked the old management. You can do better.

Dated design, crummy bike rentals, and weak pours at the bar. Friendly staff, beautiful views, and decent steak at the restaurant. Not worth the cost, if you're alright not being directly on the beach.

My son, Blake is 13 has Spinal Bifida but can walk with the aid of a walker and loves to swim. Blake had one thing he wanted to do during his visit…swim with the Dolphins. We were told to go to Sea Life Park…and to our shock…Sea Life denied Blake access and told he could not swim with their Dolphins…Blake was crushed. After some research, we found Kahala Hotel and Resort and their Dolphin team absolutely embraced Blake...and invited my wife to swim with Blake for free… It was awesome! There is no comparison...Kahala Resort is first class...has a beautiful facility, setting and staff.

One of the best hotels I've stayed at. We stayed there for our wedding so we didn't really get a chance to enjoy the amenities as we were busy with the planning of our wedding, but whatever we did enjoy was great. The service was great as expected. I would highly recommend staying here.

Possibly one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at in our life (my wife and I both agree). Pristine location, beautiful beach, nice amenities, there's really not many bad things you can say about this place. The friendly and courteous staff was always willing to assist and provided excellent service. The choice of several restaurants within the hotel area made it possible to enjoy superb dining night after night. Absolutely the best dinner however was our candlelight dinner on the balcony of the hotel room. Is is too early to say we are already planning on returning?

Had the pleasure of staying at the resort for 5 days this February, overall it was a great experience. However I did not find the cleanliness of the rooms to be on par with the expectation of a 5 star resort. Aside from that I did would go back to it, however the rooms could use a bit of upgrading due to wear and tear. The location is great with a wonderful beach.
