So my 120 GB slim PS3's optical drive died recently (mid-game too!)... Everything else works, but the PS3 won't spin the disc (insert/eject perfectly fine).
Wondering what I should do, so I thought I'd ask people here for advice :P

Can't play Ingress on a PS3 (or PS4). Therefore you don't need one. Get a better phone and come play outdoors with us!

Adelaide is a connected non-volatile cell for the DARSANA anomaly (global Niantic-ran event that will drive the storyline). Basically, we need to win in MU count for the whole of this week! If you wanna help out, please comment below! We really need as many agents on the field and in intel as possible.

Device Tethering

Every year, Currumbin on the Gold Coast plays host to the Swell Sculpture Festival. For a few weeks in September, sculptures of all shapes and sizes dot the beach, some making statements, others just fun pieces of artwork. This one, called "Device Tethering" by David McGuinness, was one of my favourites from this year. I think it makes quite the statement about smart phones. I know I certainly feel like this sometimes!

Urgh. So many calls from a "Windows Technician" or someone from "Telstra" telling me that I have "viruses on my computer, please press CTRL + R". Even my mum is making a game out of keeping them on the line for as long as possible XD Alternatively, thinking of going "my friend had some trouble, maybe you should call him [insert police station number]" XD XD

FYI, CTRL + R does nothing; they're after WINDOWS + R, or "Run", after which they probably get you to go to some website or give them remote access

Hacking statistics! Pity there wasn't a friendly/enemy breakdown, but still really useful!

#Ingress  hacking statistics time!

Overall the numbers have stayed very consistent to the last time I calculated (about 2 months ago, with half the number of hacks), which is good and lends to its credibility.  The exceptions are power cubes and capsules, which as expected have been tweaked since then (so although the numbers are accurate, the rate and % chance isn't anymore).

Capsules seem to be down to 1 in 2100, and cubes up to 1 in 4.3 (since last results in early July).   However rumour has it that cubes are even higher right now, potentially in the 1:2 range.  Unfortunately since they were tweaked during this period I have no reliable way of knowing their overall drop rate (yet).

VR Heatsinks and Multihacks stayed consistent as the most rare items, in around the 1 in 3000 hacks area.

I've also included a chart with enough statistical data to compare glyph to non-glyph.  We can see the average amount of items for non-glyph has fallen to 2.8, whereas glyph total output is 6.7 (or 2.4x the rewards).  This is compared to ~3 items before glyph hacking was around.

Keys have been excluded, and ~90% of the hacks were friendly, but unfortunately I didn't get a breakdown from the provider to be able to differentiate them.  All results are non-glyph except for the ones explicitly saying so.

"Accuracy" is simply 50/samples (i.e. 100 samples gives 1% margin of error, aka +/- 0.5% or 0.5% accuracy.

All data taken from real players as a result of normal gameplay between April and August 2014.  No bots or scripts were used in the acquiring of this data (other than a passive data logging proxy script).

Does anyone know if keys count against hack total or are just added on? Ie if I hold a key to a portal, will I get more other items because it doesn't give me a key?

FYI, those considering faction changes.

In response to the increase in questions surrounding faction changes, we've put together a quick faction change FAQ:

Q: How long will it take for my faction change to go through?
A: Faction changes are currently taking 6+ weeks to process

Q: Can I still play while I'm waiting?
A: Yes; there is nothing stopping you from honing your Agent skills while you wait.

Q: Will I lose my medals when I change factions?
A: No, you will not lose your medals. You will, however, lose all of your inventory and AP. In addition, any Resonators that are deployed at the time of the faction change will be destroyed.

Q: Someone submitted a faction change request for my codename that I don't want. Help!
A: Reach out to us via private G+ post or via the Help Center:

https://support.google.com/ingress/#topic=3261401&contact=1&ts=3470799,3470808

Q: How many times am I allowed to change factions?
A: We will grant one faction change per player (all time).

Q: I got an email saying that my faction change is complete, but my Scanner is still showing me as my old faction.
A: You may have to force a sign-in by force stopping the app. If that still doesn't work, please reply to your confirmation email, and we're happy to help you.

Q: Is deleting my account the same as a faction change?
A: No; if you delete your account, you cannot reuse your email address, and your entire account (including medals) will be completely deleted.

Q: If I delete my entire Google account, will it also delete my Ingress account?
A: Yes.

There's already enough hardcore gamers on the ENL side. Me changing sides would just be just a drop in the ocean. A green ocean...

Come join the meet-and-greet!
Ka Wu (TheHighwind) originally shared:

Hey all!@TheHighwind here! Since it's been ages since we've last had a Resistance meet-and-greet, here's one for Thursday the 14th! All Resistance agents welcome! Note that 6:30pm is only the start time. Anyone can come and go as they please, until everyone's battery or stamina is drained :)

AP and social fun is the main point of this event. L8+ agents are tasked with clearing slime for non-L8+ agents to gain maximum AP, and to help with tips, advice, etc. non-L8+ are to gain as much AP as possible!!

Farming may be possible afterwards depending on the number of available agents.
