New post: Time to Load the StormBurban - What an odd spring! Here it is, less than 5 days till May, and I’ve had no cause yet to load the chasing equipment. The chaser rule is: if it’s May and there’s a chance, you chase it! So I’ll be prepping the truck over the weekend, since models are teasing with a chance (maybe more than one) for storms next week.

New post: Post-storm recovery: Be careful what you sign! - A contractor may ask you to sign a document similar to the one you sign at the doctor’s office, assigning benefits from your insurance coverage directly to the contractor. By doing so, you may be giving up significant rights…and control over your ability to get future insurance.

New post: Wednesday Update: More of us to see storms than Tuesday - Models have been trending toward today’s economic risk being large hail, and today’s outlooks reflect that even more. I think we’ll see numerous reports of 2″ and larger hail. That’s not to say the tornado risk is down, but I think we’ll see fewer overall tornadoes than Tuesday. What tornadoes occur, though, could be strong (EF2 or greater). I expect a few wind damage reports, too, as storms line out fairly rapidly by mid-afternoon.

New post: Could be a mess, could fizzle. If it goes, especially after sunset, it should go big - Some level of severe weather could be going on much of the day Wednesday. The higher level of concern is around or after sunset.

New post: Warm front or dry line? - Some aspects of today are looking better than tomorrow now. “Day-before-the-day” events are becoming somewhat of a Kansas tradition. It looks like activity is a good bet on the dry line and on the warm front, with the highest impact in northern parts of central Kansas.

New post: I-70 and US 183 corridors of most interest to me Tuesday - Some high-end severe weather expected in Kansas. Tornadoes most likely from around I-70 north, with the higher chances for strong tornadoes near a triple point. Hail to the size of hen eggs is possible across a large swath of Kansas.

New post: April 30: Isolated to widely-scattered storms in western Kansas - A dryline pushes into western Kansas, bringing chances for scattered to isolated storms. Low-end severe weather is possible with the few storms which form. A microburst is not out of the question. A wind advisory is in effect for much of the state from 10am Monday until 1am Tuesday.
