My wife and I moved to the area 2 years ago. We had the ducts cleaned while in our previous house with fantastic results. The company in that area used a negative air technique which sucks EVERYTHING out of the air system using powerful suction from the truck they arrived in. They cleaned every single vent and return in the house and even opened up the furnace unit to clean every ounce of dust out of it. They even offered to clean the dryer vent. I decided to call K&S a couple of weeks ago to clean the ducts in our current house for the first time. Upon showing the employee where all of the vents and returns were, he stated that they generally only clean the air returns. He ended up cleaning all vents and returns upstairs, but only the air return downstairs. For equipment, he lugged in what appeared to be an oversized, glorified shop vac with a large spinning brush on the end of a hose. The downside is that the brush was too large to fit into the main air return upstairs. I had to troubleshoot for him in order to convince him there was another way to clean the return from downstairs. Once he left, I opened up the main unit/furnace and discovered handful clumps of dust, dirt, and even a pen, which I ended up spending an hour cleaning myself. I feel I could have done a better job myself with my own shop vac and saved a few hundred dollars. I'm very unimpressed with their cleaning technique and will look elsewhere next time.

First, thank you for taking time to write a review and explain in detail what you discovered. Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with out work. K&S offers both the negative air and Rotobrush duct cleaning procedures. Rotobrush is the best system when we are removing built up dust and debris. In almost every case, the Rotobrush system gets very positive reviews. I have met with the duct cleaning tech that performed your job. It appears he omitted a final step that is necessary after we perform a Rotobrush duct cleaning. The last step is to turn on your system and let it run for a short period of time. After that time period, the tech is suppose to do a final check for any dust or debris that the system may have pushed into the main return. The tech is a newer member of our team and still a little green with some of the more challenging forced air systems, and he admitted that he was a little uncomfortable with yours. Additionally, some duct work does not work with the Rotobrush system, especially older homes. K&S would like to offer you a complimentary fall furnace inspection for the trouble and our performance below your expectations. Please call Katie at K&S and she will arrange your complimentary fall furnace inspection. Katie’s direct line is 507-361-2334. Once again, thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Feedback like yours allows us to do a better job with future duct cleaning projects. Brian Keehn, GM

AVOID K&S!!!!! Had trouble with a water heater at rental property, guy came and diagnosed "the problem". The guy said He couldn't fix it because he was too big to get in the area. Called new company to find out that what K&s said was wrong with it was not even the problem! Saved me $400! I tried to talked to K&S's POOR costumer service lady on the phone about the issue and that I should have no service charge or at least a discount. She raised her voice, BLAMED ME FOR THEIR MISTAKE, and refused to let me talk to a manager higher than her. NO RESPECT FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS.. AVOID K&S!!!

Jesse, if you are going to write a review, please tell the entire truth. This review is a result of Jesse refusing to pay our $89.00 trip & diagnostic charge from almost 6 months ago. He is now angry as we have contacted him to pay his past due bill. The truth: Our technician went to the property, explained what his problem was and the cost to repair it, and he decided not to have K&S perform the repair. The only charge was our normal $89.00 trip and diagnostic charge. Choosing to have another company do the work was his decision. This has nothing to do with the physical size of our employees. K&S deserves to be paid for the time and effort we provided diagnosing the problem. Unfortunately, when making calls to customers who have not paid their bills, the discussion can get slightly adversarial. K&S has thousands of satisfied customers since opening our doors in 1988. We are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau and strive for 100% customer satisfaction every day.

The installation of our furnace, air conditioner went fast and flawless. This is the quietest furnace I have ever been around. The iComfort app has been fun to use and I have had no problems learning it. I am looking forward to the savings since we went from a builders grade 80% efficient furnace to the 98% efficient furnace. I would recommend my installers from K&S Heating and Plumbing to anyone in the Rochester, MN area.

My AC was not working in the middle of July. I called K&S explaining my situation. We agreed to have it looked at the following Friday. They sent a technician who spent ten minutes looking, answered another phone call, and attempted to leave. When asked a few times what was wrong with my unit, the technician said he did not know, that he would call the following Monday with a diagnosis (saying maybe it had to do with the freon), and that I should just keep my fan on in the mean time. Monday came and went without a call, from the technician or K&S. The summer heat and humidity ended up killing all of my precious houseplants. I called Haley Comfort Systems and they promptly came out, quickly diagnosed the problem (the fan blowing on the evaporator coil was dislodged) and fixed it. The following October (three months later) K&S sent a bill for $176.61, not specifying what any of the charges were for. When I asked what the charges were for, I never got a clear answer. I asked to speak to a supervisor, manager, and even the owner and was denied access. All I wanted was a solution, but their solution seems to be blindly paying them for no service done for me. They have intimidated me (threatening to damage my credit for not paying them for no services done to my AC unit), so I am taking it upon myself to let everyone know that this is a dishonest company with only its financial interest in mind. If you're looking for HVAC services, I recommend Haley instead.

Our K&S tech was at the customers home for two hours (not 10 minutes) diagnosing the problem and determining the proper pathway to repair their unit. The A/C had a defective expansion valve. We advised the home owner “in detail" the cost to repair their A/C and they declined to have it fixed. We never fix any homeowners equipment without permission. Due to their decision to not repair their A/C, we invoiced the homeowner at our normal rate for our technicians travel and diagnostic time in home. No payment has occurred since July of 2015, so we were finally were forced to take legal action to receive payment. These are the facts. K&S has a 98%+ customer satisfaction rating through independent reviews performed by Lennox Industries. Our No. 1 goal everyday is 100% customer satisfaction. That involves everyone at K&S.

Mr. Manager B. Keehn: This is your full response to my review (as 'eastcastle g'), "Thank you for your review. We appreciate all reviews whether a 5 star or not. Obviously, a breakdown in the communication between our person handling your call and you. K&S, along with most other HVAC companies in Rochester, use flat rate pricing. This allows us to tell a homeowner the cost of a repair in advance of it occurring. Our flat rate for installing an inducer motor is $144.00. The $89.00 is our charge for traveling to your home and up to an hour of diagnostic time determining your problem. This helps covers the expense of our van, our technician riding in the van, stocking the van with all the necessary parts so we can repair most home comfort equipment in a single trip, gas, maintenance, insurance, etc, etc. I understand that you may feel this charge was above what you expected, but it is 100% accurate for the repair you required. We have met with our personnel and reviewed our process to make sure we are completely clear about the difference between the $89.00 trip & diagnostic charge and flat rate pricing to complete a repair. Thanks again for your review. Brian Keehn, Manager". >> But you got confused Mr.! You listed the items to justify the $89 charge. But I never disputed about it. I already paid the $89 on 12-31-2015! The issue here is the EXTRA charge of $144, the ‘flat rate’ as you call it. I already said in my review that several other companies in Rochester area I investigated do NOT charge this extra EXCEPT the $89. In fact, in my 20+ years living in Rochester I used a number of companies. NONE of them charge the extra. They only charge the 1st hour lump sum ($50-70 ten years ago) if I provide the parts. You said your pricing is 100% accurate, then please justify this extra that no other companies do. A last piece of information: when I called initially asking K&S to install the self-purchased part, your receptionist only told me the $89, WITHOUT mentioning the $144 AT ALL (you can listen to the recorded message). Otherwise why would I hire K&S to do the job (20 minutes in total) for $233 (89+144) while other companies only charge $90-110? The industrial standards: the 1st hour charge ($89 in this case) already includes the so-called ‘flat rate’ and all the other items as you listed. This is why other companies do not charge it. >>> Mr. K&S manager: you responded to my above statement (below). I do not want to say more but just repeat this: go and listen to the recorded phone conversation !!! That is what I asked K&S to do (ONLY to install my own part, nothing more as a 3rd company already had done diagnosis), and that is what I was quoted for and paid!!!

I am not confused about anything. Your 12/31 payment is not what our discussion is about. You are upset with the additional charge of $144.00, and I am simply trying to explain how K&S operates in our service department. The K&S employee followed our protocol with a trip and diagnostic charge plus the flat rate for the installation of the new inducer motor. If we had not done the installation, the charge would have been just the $89.00. The $144.00 is not an extra charge, it is the price for the part being properly installed by a trained technician. Even with a self purchased part, K&S still has to follow our proper protocol to confirm that the part is in fact the real problem. As a rule, we do not install parts purchased by homeowners as we do not have any control on the quality. We made an exception for you, and now we have a disagreement. If you want to have a further discussion, rather than trading e-mails, please feel free to give me a call at 507-282-4328 and we can discuss this over the phone. THANKS

Called K&S to install a furnace inducer self-purchased at Amazon. The receptionist told me the price ($89 for the 1st hour). A few days later a technician came to take out the old inducer and put in the new one (~20 min total). The bill then came for a total of $233 ($89 + $144)! The $144 is not mentioned during the initial phone conversation. Called around other companies in Rochester area, none of which charge extra other than the 1st hour charge (range from $90-$110). It is hard to understand why K&S charges the extra (had they told me that I would've used other companies, obviously)!

I called at 3:00 a.m. on 2/11/16 and left a message that our heater had stopped working. Called back at 6:30 a.m. (they opened at 6:00 that day) and found that a call had been scheduled for 7:30 a.m.and she was just waiting for the team to confirm before calling me back.I pushed the time back to 8:00 a.m. because I had to get my daughter to school. I was home at 7:59 and Mike and Devin were waiting for me. They were both very nice and professional and within 30 minutes, they had diagnosed the problem (dirty pilot light sensor), fixed it, replaced my furnace filter and were ready to go. To say I'm pleased is an understatement. I've used K&S in the past, and will use them in the future. Very happy with the service.
