Come! You and Toto, too! See you Saturday!

This weekend we're off to see the wizard, the wonderful WIZARD OF OZ in celebration of it's 75 anniversary!

Sponsored by All Classical Portland and hosted by Edmund Stone, producer/host of the popular syndicated movie music program, "The Score," the showing on April 26th will be a typical 1939 cinema adventure. Those lucky enough to attend will be treated to a prelude of live cinema organ music played by Don Feely (long time accompanist at Portland's old Organ Grinder Restaurant). This is followed by a Warner Bros. cartoon and a Pathe newsreel, both from 1939, and then a carefully restored copy of The Wizard of Oz. The portal to 1939 is open for just a short time!

Announcing our newest station: KQMI 88.9 FM Manzanita! We're thrilled to bring classical music to the North Coast. Thanks to the Manzanita City Council for their support and permission to mount our antenna on the city water tower! Pictured is the KQMI rack, getting ready to be loaded on a truck and put on the air last Friday evening.

He's the hardest working man in classical music, and today's his birthday: Neville Marriner is 90, and as busy as ever. We're celebrating throughout the day with performances by the orchestra he founded, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields . Club Mod's tribute of Neville's new music recordings is found in the Audio Archive of www.allclassical.org.

This is a great radio station. All classical Portland reminds me of what we Canadian's use to have in our CBC. After the CBC all but gave up on classical programming I went looking for a new station to fill the void during my work day. It took quite a while but eventually I came across All Classical Portland. The hosts are easy to listen to and the programming is excellent!

Earlier this afternoon I heard that no one on the radio had heard of anyone named "Granville" and my great grandfather was Granville M. Brown. Born in Ohio and crossed the plains in a covered wagon as a toddler, and lived in Brownsville Oregon, and Dallas Oregon. Though I never met him, I was intrigued by his first name. Thank you for your wonderful selections I listen while sewing and looking out the window at our trees. Your patter during the pledge drive is quite entertaining to me. Thank you. I have listened to my mother and my grandmother play classical music on piano, and on records. My father called it "long hair music" and disparaged it a bit, in favor of his big band dance music and later jazz. I never had an opportunity to take music lessons, but all musicians need appreciative audiences, and that is where I fit in. I do have a question: Back in the 1940's my Grandmother's favorite radio station was KWJJ, which played classical music. I wonder if it was the genesis for All Classical Portland music. I don't recall the stations I listened to in the 1960's as a young mother, but classical music has been a huge part of my 74 years.

I've lived in several cities with classical music radio stations. Without a doubt, All Classical Portland is the finest I've ever heard. Outstanding playlist, educational, and awesome, classy staff. They lift my spirit every single day! We are incredibly fortunate to call Portland Oregon its home. ACP is finally moving to beautiful, new diggs after 30 years! Please support All Classical Portland which stands on its own treble clef legs and give us the pure joy of classical music!
