RIGHTS OWED TO THE PARENTS IN ISLAM

Rights owed to the Parents
In Islam family is a fundamental public unit. As husband-wife relationship is important in Islam, Parent-Child bond is also the most important one. For a strong relationship both parties should have equal rights as well as obligations. Relationships are give-and-take duties, one has right and other has duty. In parent child connection, parent's privileges are the duties of children. In Islam it is unambiguous that after ALLAH in our life parents are the persons who provide their children incalculable favors in shape of guard, clothing and food to newly born children. In parents mother has much importance because mother sacrifices her comforts so that she will be able to provide comfort to her children and father is the person who sacrifices his energy all the day so that he would be able to fulfill educational, physical and spiritual needs of his children. As we know that it's basic principle of our life that if you do a favor for someone then it should be your duty to repay himself in shape of thank you and any reward. Parents do so many favors to their children so children should also repay their parents in shape of obedience and respect. That's the reason that Islam pays so much stress to the rights of parents. According to Chapter 17 Surah Bani Israel and verses 23-24, ALLAH says

RIGHTS OF MOTHERS IN ISLAM
Obeying parents especially mothers, revering them and being dutiful to them are considered among the righteous acts that please God while disobeying them is an act that incurs God's wrath. At the top of the Islamic teachings comes worshiping God alone as shown in many verses in the Holy Quran, God made next in importance to monotheism obeying parents; God says:
"Your Lord has decreed that you should worship nothing except Him, and (show) kindness to your parents, whether one or both of them attain old age (while they are) still with you, never say to them a word of contempt nor scold them. Address them in a generous fashion. And out of kindness, stay before them with humility and say: 'My Lord, show them mercy, just as they cared for me in my childhood' " (17:23-24).
The biggest sin in Islam is polytheism, in many hadiths disobeying mother and father is next to this heinous act.
Caring about parents also has been given much stress in the prophetic words to the extent that it is more preferred to Jihad, the term Jihad in the following hadith means the defensive wars that were launched against the enemies of Islam who were keen to undermine the Islamic state; Abdullah ibn Masud by way of Abu Amr ash-Shaybani says:
I asked the Prophet, May Allah bless him and grant him peace, which action Allah loves best. He replied, "Prayer at its proper time." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Then beautiful conduct to parents." I asked, "Then what?" He replied, "Then jihad in the Way of Allah." He told me about these things. If I had asked him to tell me more, he would have told me more.
Mother , in particular , is given all the priorities in the life of her sons , a son should give his utmost care to his mother then his wife comes in the next place, a son should not prefer his wife to his mother under any circumstances;

PARENT'S PERMISSION NECESSARY FOR JIHAD

God says in the Holy Quran what means:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (17:23)
Islam, the religion of human rights, gave the rights of parents special importance, the following story shows to what extent the rights of parents are stressed.
A person came to the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from Yemen to ask him to participate in the Islamic wars against the frequent wars against Islam. The Prophet of God (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) enquired from him,
"Do you have any relations in Yemen?' He submitted:
"Yes, my father and mother are there".
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then asked:
"Did they give you permission to leave?" He submitted: "No, I did not take their permission".

RIGHTS OF HUSBANDS IN ISLAM

Imam Gazali, one of the early Muslim intelligentsias in the Islamic culture, comments on the rights of the husband over his wife saying that these can be condensed in two points: to maintain his affairs and keep his secrets and the other is not to overburden him with unnecessary demands and to urge him to earn his living from lawful sources by refraining from his eating from his earnings if these are unlawfully got.
She should obey the husband as long as his commands comply with God's instructions and preserve her chastity and his possessions. God says in this regard what means:
"Therefore, the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's property, etc.)." 4:34
To conclude, the obligations of women towards their husbands can be recapitulated as follows:

HUMAN TREATMENT OF PRISONERS OF WAR IN ISLAM

Islam is a religion of love, peace and tolerance even with enemies. God says in the Holy Quran what means:
"And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive…" "Al-insan:8"
Though war in Islam was always to defend the Islamic state, there was ethics that should be followed with the prisoners and even with combatants, this ethics was stressed by the Holy Quran and detailed by the prophet and followed by the rightly -guided caliphs.
Concerning the rules of combat as outlined in Islam, the following points are important to note:
The Holy Quran holds hostilities so abhorrent in time of peace and war
Allah says in the Qur'an what means:
{Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities.Lo! Allah loves not, aggressors.} (Al-Baqarah 2:190)
The above permission to fight clearly lays down the following conditions:
(1) Never commit aggression; fighting is allowed only for self-defense.
(2) Fighting must never be against non-combatants or non-fighting personnel.

PARENT'S RIGHTS INISLAM

Islam gives much care to the structure of the family, the small unit of society. The Muslim family is based on love, cooperation and mercy. The same feeling should be reciprocal between neighbours as this fosters a well-coherent society based on love and cooperation.
The Holy Qur’an is emphatic on giving the ultimate care and mercy to parents. The following set of morals should be keenly practised by Muslim children towards their parents:
1: Right of kindness
God says in the Holy Qur’an, what means:
“Your Lord has decreed that you should worship nothing except Him, and (show) kindness to your parents, whether one or both of them attain old age (while they are) still with you…” (17:23)

Here God stresses the rights of parents by making kindness and respect to parents next to worshipping Him.
2: Don’t say aught that might anger them

God says in the Holy Qur’an what means:

“Never say to them a word of contempt nor scold them.”(17:23)

ETHICS OF WAR IN ISLAM

(2) Fighting must never be against non-combatants or non-fighting personnel.
Prophet Muhammad used to instruct his followers during battles and tell them not to be embittered or inclined to commit treachery but even he was keen to put the Islamic war ethic into effect. He asked them to spare non-combatants, particularly children and hermits.
Caliph Abu Bakr, being taught at the prophet's hands, gave the following instructions to the commander who led the campaign to Syria:
"Do not betray, be treacherous or vindictive. Do not mutilate. Do not kill children, the aged or women. Do not cut or burn palm trees or fruit trees. Do not slay a sheep, a cow, or camel except for your food. And you will come across people who stay in hermitages for worship; leave them alone to what they devote themselves to."

THE STORY OF THE MOTHER OF ABU-HURAIRA
Always Pray for your Parents
On the authority of Abu-Huraira, who said:
I used to call my mother to Islam when she was still a polytheist. One day, while I was calling her she mentioned something about the Prophet , Peace and Blessings be Upon Him, that I detested. So I went to see the Prophet , Peace and Blessings be Upon Him, while crying and told him: I used to call my mother to Islam and she would refuse. I called her today and she mentioned something about you that I detested. Please invoke the blessings and guidance of Allah on her. Then the Prophet , Peace and Blessings be Upon Him, said: O Great Allah guide the motherof Abu-Huraira. So I left full of hope because of the Prophet's supplication for my mother. When I reached home I found that the door was partially closed.
My mother heard my footsteps and said:
Stay still Abu-Huraira, then I heard the water running; he added my mother performed body ablution, put on her cloths and hurriedly opened the door without her head-cover
