Amazon.com seems to have changed their algorithms again. This is both for keywords and how searches show up on the Kindle page. In the past, free Kindle books did not show up in regular lists, now they appear to. This is a huge departure from how the site ranked in the past and could mean a huge change in how books are marketed on this site. Always having something for free was an option in the past, now it may be mandatory if you want to enhance your visibility there.
Have a look for yourself. Do a search on a genre fiction book and take a look at top results. I did this search for just about every segment of the romance category (which is the most cluttered) and the first books that come up are free.
If you head on over to the Kindle store, type in your book genre, let's say it's crime fiction and then add an additional letter. So, your search would look like this: crime fiction and a
What this will do is it'll pull up all keys in your niche that start with the letter A. This is another way to detail keywords that I will explaining in an upcoming blog post.
When you search like this, the lists that will pop up are considered "most popular" meaning that they'll get reader attention quicker/faster.
I know all of this is confusing, but this is jut FYI. I'll be updating this shortly and posted something on our blog with some detailed screen shots, etc.
