Always
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NRSV These verses teach me about the interconnectedness of joy to prayer and the giving of thanks. The word...

Fruit
A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. -Matthew 7:18 ESV I love the way this version uses healthy and diseased to represent the Greek words that are more precisely translated good and evil. It begs the question of whe...

Stand
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. -Ephesians 6:11 ESV We are not able to stand against evil by ourselves. It is why we need the armor that Paul speaks of in this verse. He goes on to describe thi...

Kindness
He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you. But to do justice, to love kindness. And to walk humbly with your God? -Micah 6:8 NASB The Hebrew word חָ֫סֶד (checed) is translated here as kindness. In other versions it is rende...

Stones
"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out." -Luke 19:40 NIV Such was the response of Christ to the Pharisees as he entered Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. This seems to be the first time that Jesus openly acknowledged his div...

Satan
Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." -Luke 10:18 NCV Satanan, the Greek word used here, could be translated 'adversary'. Other Greek words like diábolos (slanderer) and peirazōn (tempter) give us further insight into the nature of Sata...

Introduction
I am married, have two grown children and two grandchildren. I have worked as a soldier, technician, software designer and a pastor. I am now retired. I began blogging about faith in late 2004 at An Eye for Redemption. In November 2006 I started the Kansas Bob log, which became the Kansas City Bob blog, where I try to share things that I like to talk about in real life - like politics, movies, cultural trivia, quotes and other stuff. I also share prayers at the Daily Prayer blog and some photos at the fone fotos blog.
