I love massive books. Books so big, like bricks, you could drown yourself in a pool with them if you're not careful. It's not a healthy love, I'll admit. It's more like Stockholm Syndrome. Like a kidnapping victim who falls in love with his captor, these books capture and sequester my mind for so long that I begin to feel deluded that I love them more than anything else in the world.

We sit silently. My friend stares deeply into her empty glass, occasionally shuffling the ice around with her straw. "Wow," she says. I sit and wait for her to say something else. What started out as a festive night somehow became a long, deep discussion about love, what it consists of, and how rare it actually is.

I don’t know what we’re yelling about. LOUD NOISES!

Often that’s what social media feels like to me. A few million people sharing their favorite lunch time sandwich and soup. Or maybe a selfie while in the bathroom after eating their favorite sandwich and soup. I’m guilty as charged. I’ve taken a-many cute photos of my two puppies for no reason other than to let the world know how cute my two puppies are. Seriously, just look at these two.
