Reached inbox zero yesterday on my work account. Now it's time to knock out five projects go-lives today with Zen precision.

May your 2014 work days be every bit as efficient, and your play time be well earned and well spent.

Mathematical spring has noticed the weather, and caught up with it today  (in my corner of the northern hemisphere at least). So, happy equinox to you!

The rising sun was circled by a rainbow halo as it passed morning moisture. Too faint for a good phone photo, but it looked awesome!

Yet another measure of why I'm so pleased to work with the UC Davis collective, and for the University of California as a whole.

Every facet of life that I love and study in California returns my attention to what a profound impact the UC system has had upon it. In turn, current Californian pragmatic idealism feeds the UC in a positive feedback loop. We study the work of, and invite like-minded innovators of our species from around the world, to collaborate in our daydream made real.

Not sure what I think of the idea that inspired them, but the concept and designs they yield are pretty awesome.

I love the natural rock-like features and texture of the walls, unique among the handful of gyms I've been to. It's a shame that the routes aren't taller, though to be fair, this is a trade off of high variety and quality, which I imagine would be quite expensive to extend higher than the current routes. As an adult climber, I've found the vibe to be friendly and casual, like climbing in a friend's parents' living room while they're away. And though there are shorter routes than in some gyms, there is extensive opportunity for a solo climber - bouldering routes, end to end traverses, and a few autobelay roped stations - as well as roped partners. Good stuff.

Someone at Trader Joe's mentioned that they stock a bigger selection of Stone Brewing Company beers, so I stopped by once a while back. I saw they had a six pack of Oaked Arrogant Bastard, so I picked it up. The clerk that night, a middle aged Desi man, ironically turned into an arrogant bastard himself - he told me I shouldn't pay that price for a six pack, then grudgingly sold it to me. Tonight I was in the mood for more Stone, went back, and was unhappy to see the same clerk working again. He did the same routine when I tried to buy it, but this time he took it further. He said I must be drunk to be willing to pay that for a six pack, and that he wouldn't sell it to me. If the owner wants to stock good beer and wine along with the cheap stuff, who is this dude to say otherwise? He should be sacked, he's bad for business. In the meantime, East Sacramento has plenty of places with the friendly, good service you'd expect, who are happy to sell you the wares their stores offer. Trader Joe's across the street, Corti Bros., and Stop n' Shop all come immediately to mind within a few blocks along Folsom Blvd.
