Best quote ever - "The soapbox idea I've been thinking out is is "LCD development" - if the place you work will attract 90th percentile (sexy startup, google, etc), then go ahead and use these rediculously complex patterns that you and your fellow rockstars invented. But if you're at a place that will attract average developers (MOST FUCKING PLACES), then stop being a hipster douche."

TDWTF founder and Inedo boss-man, +Alex Papadimoulis, showed his BuildMaster product to a company- and many of the prospective users didn't get it. But their "champion" at the company still wants to push through the sale. Has Alex become a future WTF story?

The actual thread does provide some great discussion on how to drive change in an IT organization. Well, the parts not discussing Inedo's Scotch library, anyway.
There seem to have been plenty of stories here with a bit about the clueless salesguy coming in and doing his big pitch in front of the team, the team laughing about how terrible the solution is, and ...

I love comparing old stuff to new, it shows how far we have come. I can't believe they had 250MB drives in 1979 though! wow, that would have been HUGE!

Forgive me father, for I have sinned...

You know you have sinned. Here's your chance to seek absolution.
Ten years ago I wrote my first mySQL web app for a freelance client. None of the tables had primary keys; instead I would just use the created_at timestamp or an email address as a unique identifier. ...

A Frenchman, an Englishman, and a New Yorker are captured by cannibals.

The chief cannibal comes to them and says, "The bad news is that now that we've caught you, we're going to kill you, put you in a pot, cook you, eat you, and then use your skins to build a canoe. The good news is that you get to choose how you die."

The Frenchman says, "I take zee sword."

The chief gives him a sword, he says, "Vive la France!" and runs himself through.

The Englishman says, "Right--a pistol for me, please."
The chief gives him a pistol, he points it at himself, says, "God save the queen!" and shoots.

The New Yorker says, "Gimme a fork."

The chief is puzzled, but he shrugs and gives him a fork. The New Yorker takes the fork and starts jabbing himself all over the stomach, the sides, the chest, everywhere. There's blood gushing out all over; it's horrible!

The chief is appalled, and asks, "What in the world are you doing?"

The New Yorker says, "So much for your stupid canoe!"

Walking around saying, "OK, Glass" without one... :(

Some new research results:

* Developers may be getting as much as 50% of their documentation from Stack Overflow.
* More examples can be found on Stack Overflow than the official documentation guide.
* In web searches, Stack Overflow questions are visited 2x-10x more often than official documentation.

So, what would you do with glass?

Seeking Glass Explorers: goo.gl/PbKWr

Last year we showed Glass to the world for the first time - we jumped out of airships, crashed New York Fashion Week and even took a ride on the subway. It’s been an exhilarating journey so far and there’s a lot more to come, but we can’t go it alone. We’re developing new technology that is designed to be unobtrusive and liberating, and so far we’ve only scratched the surface of the true potential of Glass.

Now we want you to get involved and that’s why today we’re expanding our Glass Explorer Program. We’re looking for bold, creative individuals who want to join us and be a part of shaping the future of Glass. Glass is still in the early stages, so we expect there will be some twists and turns along the way. While we can’t promise everything will be perfect, we can promise it will be exciting.

We’d love to make everyone a Glass Explorer, but we’re starting a bit smaller. So, if you want to be one of the first Explorers, go to www.google.com/glass/start/how-to-get-one to find out how.
