Ever notice something really tiny in a song that just makes your day? There's this tiny bit of flanger thrown in at 0:48-0:52 in The Primeval Dark by Insomnium that's barely audible, but it gives me chills every time. That is one well-placed effect! #Insomnium   #metal   #guitareffects

I love it when bands build a mythology in their lyrics and call back to it in later albums. One example is Parkway Drive's Hollow Man (Don't Close Your Eyes, 2006) and Hollow (Deep Blue, 2010). Hollow Man is the standard "You suck, rich dude!" kind of lyrics you expect from a metal band. When they reworked the same musical idea in 2010, though, it seems they rewrote the lyrics to be from the bad guy's perspective--as he realizes what a horrible person he is and tries to change.

It's little things like that that make me take the time to read death metal lyrics--and that change me from a casual listener to a hardcore fan. Keep it heavy, Parkway! \m/

Can't remember all 20 parts of that Metallica track? Here's how to memorize a song on guitar, no matter how complicated it is.   #memorization

Learning one of my absolute favorite In Flames songs on guitar right now. 1:39 to 1:55 is one of the best things in the history of metal, and I can't continue going through life not knowing how to play it!
