Created the June Writing playlist. This month we're focused on video game, movie, and other soundtracks. Includes works from Joe Hisaishi (various studio Ghibli films), Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy and a lot of Square-Enix), a number of OverClocked ReMix albums (such as Balance and Ruin [FFVI] and Chrono Symphonic [Chrono Trigger], the soundtrack to Akira, Blade Runner, Mass Effect, Halo, Various Mega man soundtracks, and more.

Should be a fun listen.

Tech Level Reduction, or I really Miss My Microwave

New technology is hitting us in the face on an almost daily basis. Phones, wearables, better interfaces in cars, better lightbulbs; they’re all coming out in an uneven pace marching us towards a future not too different than some of the stories we’ve read…

A Chance To Be

I’ve spent the past week living a very weird life. The last time I lost my job I was in a depressing funk of going from the heights of gaming to distract myself to the drudging grind of finding new work. It was a downward aping that swept me for three…

Day Job Post Mortem

The lesson we learn in the corporate realm is that in the end you are a mercenary of your own skills. Years of hard work, dedication, and development are little match against the better buy for the hive mind running a company. Hard numbers speak, and the…

Flash Fiction: Face Speaker

I would say the beard was the best public speaker the world has known. It was the beard who gave the great speech that set hearts ablaze over the crisis down south. It was the beard that drove the power of my campaign and promised voters not the world,…

When I told my wife I posted about my upcoming therapist appointment she was surprised. Not shock and awed but expressed a sort of dissonance regarding what she normally considers a private matter shared so openly. It could be that I’m just public about…

I'm listening to old episodes of the DLC podcast from Penny Arcade and I'm hearing an interesting story from 2008 that reflects a bit on recent gamer culture events. The 2008 story covered the release of a Tomb Raider game and the studio trying to influence the timing of reviews.

I think about this article and surrounding events and then think of how they reflect on the gamers gate claims of journalism ethics for modern events. Where was the outrage six years ago? Where was the anger against this clear (and oddly honest) goal statement to influence game journalism?

I wonder if anyone has a good time line/data base of the cultural events within gaming. I'd be curious to see more of the history of this community.

The sun seems off. Time is shifted a few degrees and the daylight doesn’t match the time. I’m cooking. She’s writing. Pork chops; nothing fancy but a modest fare we defrosted earlier. I’m cooking on cast iron older than me, her, and the house combined.…

If you've done six impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milliways, the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
